I posted a “wanted” ad in classifieds Dscott021 registered, and within two days his only two posts are to say he knows a guy in Texas with just the item being sought. He provided an email address. I emailed - great sword with a great price; nice photos, but *surprise* no PayPal accepted. NOT a confirmed scam, but all the red flags! If dscott021 wishes to reply here or pm me, I welcome evidence I am mistaken.

well i think thats a little hasty - even with the red flags, there are long time lurkers and maybe they just want to help, and more and more people/members try not to use Paypal, simply because its pure cancer for someone who wants to sell...

I very sincerely hope you are right. As I said, I’m willing to amend my post. Also, as I said, I’m only posting a warning, not making an accusation.

I will also add: I have found the source of the photos sent to me. They were sourced as a set from an online auction site. Possible they were used out of convenience, and the seller in Texas was the one who won the auction. However, The seller in Texas claims to be the original owner, and that he has the original packaging. Not likely for an antique military saber, but it could still be a translation issue or something. I have requested a new photo proving possession. I will update as information becomes available.

He has sent PM's to several members or responded to Wanted posts, all claiming he "knows a guy in Texas" who happens to have exactly what they want. This "guy in Texas" must have a collection you wouldn't believe.

Update: The guy in Texas was fast to respond by email when discussing payment. As soon as I requested a new photo of the sword being sold, he went silent. I pm’d dscott021 simply asking how he came to know about the sword for sale. Likewise, he has gone silent.

This "guy in Texas" must have a collection you wouldn't believe. An amazing collection available at cut-rate prices, but with no discernible internet footprint. You are correct. I don't believe. Also, I request guidance from the Mods: I am willing to post the email address, claimed name, and claimed street address of the seller in Texas if appropriate. On the other hand, I certainly do not intend to "dox" anyone or do anything inappropriate. I can also provide the information to a Mod privately, or just do nothing further. Also, again, if dscott021 wishes to post or pm me, I welcome any further information. Even now, I am NOT leveling any accusations; only reporting my actual experiences.

If you PM it to one of us we'll make a note of it for future reference, but I would advice against making it public. IME publishing other people's personal information online never leads to anything good, or even anything satisfying in the way of karmic justice, and once the info is out there your intentions don't matter in the slightest. If they're a scammer, there's also the significant possibility that any addresses they give are either false or belong to other people who may or may not be in on the scam. We're not exactly Tumblr or Reddit, thankfully, so I doubt you could outright ruin anyone's life just by siccing our audience on them, but still.

I've removed him from the group. Too shady. I don't know what it is with this recent spurt of scammer activity. We've had it relatively good here as far as not being targeted, but it seems like in the last few months they've really been popping up.

Yup, I had a similar experience with him, was awaiting A response before posting. He offered me a Jody Samson cutlass for 455 usd. I pointed out that it was much more than that and asked for further information, with a picture and so on. No response
