Hello everyone,
I'm looking to buy my first sword, and I would like to buy a sword with a certain christian/catholic connection. The sword needs to be (semi) historic, good quality and around 400 euro max.
I've found a few swords that i like - Windlass Christus imperat rapier: vey elegant looking - Windlass 'The accolade' (a bit over the top imo) - Windlass 'Sword of malta' (has little christian imagery except for the cross on the pommel) - Hanwei sword of saint maurice (expensive to buy in Europe, 450 euro vs 330 USD in the US)
Does anyone has other suggestions?
Many thanks

And the Del Tin Spada di Stocco, #5144. Afaik in Europe you can order only directly from Del Tin without sharpening service. Stupid situation.

I live 300 km north of the Del Tin location but to get a sharp one I'd have to ship it through whole Germany and back for the 30 € sharpening job or order from KoA. Stupid situation.

If you cannot manage sharpening by yourself, or find someone fairly locally, I think you may be trying too hard (or not enough).
With that said, some may never want or need a sharp edge. That is not mentioned in the lead post.

I don't try at all. They want me to email them and ask for the price and if they would be so kind to make a nice but overweight SLO for me. It's better they keep their stuff and I keep my money.

I do my own sharpening. It's not amazing, but it does the job

Thank you for the suggestions. Sharpening is not a problem for me. A pity that they del tin Vienna Saint Maurice doesn't have the engraving like the hanwei version has.

In other words, you have zero interest in pursuing Del Tin swords or actually reading the noted specifications and realized statistics. Let alone have any inclination to note not all are terribly overweight and that some are rather delightful. Cool beans GC

Not "zero", but not enough to order from them directly. I know your poll and that you ask yourself why they don't sell more swords, that's the reason.

Personally, for whatever reason, the first thing "a Christian sword" always brings to my mind is very specifically the Oakeshott Family A - a simple, unassuming Type Xa or XI with that slightly ovoid wheel pommel and straight bar guard, from the 11th-12th Century. Like XI.5 here (XI. 9 in Records of the Medieval Sword), or this Xa.3 (Xa. 5 in RotMC), or the alleged sword of St. Galgano. Too bad that outside of Albion there are surprisingly few decent reproductions of this type out there. They seem like they'd be relatively cost effective to make, too, but I guess the buying public gravitates more towards flashier styles, overall.

Yeah, the classic knightly sword is a cross by itself.
Another idea is a frankish sword like the Ulfberht repros. The real Ulfberhts had inlaid crosses and were probably made in frankish/allemanic monastery forges. They represent the frankish empire as a christian institution - despite a very questionable christian way of life and ruling.

Not "zero", but not enough to order from them directly. I know your poll and that you ask yourself why they don't sell more swords, that's the reason. That is just nonsense Andi. As the market has grown, Del Tin has less of a market share. there are still 28% of respondents that have purchased Del Tin swords. Does that percentage relate overweight slo, or just your opinion on the matter? The poll hardly reflects the market as a whole. SBG is not the center of the sword universe. sbg-sword-forum.forums.net/thread/55512/who-bought-swords?Your response after the first 24 hrs of the poll kind of speaks a whole lot more regarding your motivation/interest and has little to do with the other 124 respondents. Yes, some do feel the market has moved on, yet more have bought a Del Tin than an Arms&Armor. The poll is far from an absolute but one truth is that Windlass and Hanwei/CAS Iberia have the largest market shares by far. To be more specific, Windlass is actually the king as far as production and sales goes while hardly the pinnacle of quality. Best bang for the buck? Some do feel so. Cheers GC

I only said that if Del Tin would offer their swords here in Europe like KoA does for them in the US, with public price information and sharpening service, they would sell more of their swords. What's nonsense here?

"I know They want me to email them and ask for the price and if they would be so kind to make a nice but overweight SLO for me."
"your poll and that you ask yourself why they don't sell more swords, that's the reason."
No one is twisting anyone's arm to purchase from anyone, right? The nonsense you are projecting is that from your own perspective buying a Del Tin is somehow an insurmountable hurdle in purchasing a and that they are useless wallhangers.
One need only read your reaction and my words in the poll thread to affirm that you are misrepresenting my thoughts and repeating in this thread your own phobic dismissal of Del Tin. No great loss either way.
Cheers GC

You're arguing against your own missassumptions.

You're arguing against your own missassumptions. I disagree. So what?
