I often see the term used on this forum when referring to bad cutting technique ruining a sword by causing a 'set'.
What is a set, and how do i make sure I don't cause one?

Yep, like Andi said. The best way to avoid them is to observe proper technique and blade alignment in use, and avoid targets that are unsuitable for your sword to cut.

An example of a set. In this case I was attempting a thrust into some mail during a test.
