Hi Guys
Have been lurking for a while, and finally decided to make an account as I have been hemming and hawing over getting a side sword for a while.
I am looking for a sidesword with a medium thickness blade (not a needle rapier lol), good hand guard etc., mainly concerned with durability of the blade and would appreciate a bit of fit and finish). I am not partial to any particular design, open guard/basket/etc., mainly wanting a medium to thick (for a side sword) blade, not too short, good build quality and durability.
For context: I took epee and saber in my college years so something in the range of those lengths (especially saber) would be preferred for handling, but this was years ago.
Thanks for any recommendations!

the kingston arms side sword is the only sub 500 one i can recommend, there are a few del tin ones that are alittle over 500 at around 530-650 but then you go to like arms and armor and those are over 1k

I'm not happy with my Munich, much too much weight in the hilt, esp. the 1 lb pommel. Feels like a dumbbell in the hand, dead weight.

That DT2159 looks pretty awesome. Stats seem good, too.

Various Del Tins ring my bell but I get to thinking of how else to spend the money. The 2159 is at the top of a short list for me but others should keep in mind that it is a backsword.
Andi, it is the stats that keep me from trying the Munich Windlass does tend to use pommels as their balancing too and with the close pob and the hefty guard, I can imagine the static dynamics aren't terrific.
Cheers GC

I've had the 2159 and this backsword was really nice and a sweet handler.

I've had the 2159 and this backsword was really nice and a sweet handler. Yeah I got to handle one a while back and was quite impressed by it's handling.

handle. Wish I still had it, or had just the blade. I had a light basket hilt set that I thought would be a perfect complement, but i traded it back to it's original owner before i could knock it apart and build my concept.

The Windlass Rheinfelden is officially discontinued by Windlass/MRL/Atlanta Cutlery afaik but it is still in production and perhaps you can find a store that sells it.

Thanks for the feedback guys - I am going to check out the Kingston Renaissance as I have a local dealer who has one I can actually feel the weighting etc of, and go from there.

I say go for the Kingston also. It's currently in stock at KoA for $250 with FREE shipping. I don't own one, but I have the original Hanwei model and it's a dandy little piece. You'll like it!

Got the kingston, and I am quite happy with it for the money. Came "sharp", especially the top half of the blade toward the tip, but I will put a proper edge on it. Thanks for the recommendations guys! Once I sharpen it up I will post a pic
