So basically, I want a sword that's super heavy. I made one, actually, out of metal bars from home depot,,, it's not a "sword", but just some bars in the shape of one, but I weighed it just a bit ago , and it's 15 lbs.
I am looking for a very thick sword, so thick, like 1.5inches (which my dummy sword is) at the blades beginning, that I can use it as a digging bar, pound on it with a hammer to slam it between rocks, or use it for other prybar uses. The sword would not have any other materials for a handle, it would be solid once piece metal for the entire shape. It would be roughly the design of a gladius, but obviously very thick and heavy. It would not have a particularly sharp blade or need to be a particularly hard steel, because it would be so thick, with very blunt edges.
I am also looking to talk about such a sword, and find other enthusiasts who might have relevant experiences.
My sword would be very thick through the handle, perhaps 1.5 inches by 2 inches oval handle, and would not be made of joined pieces of metal, but would be forged from a single ingot, and be strongest where the hilt and blade meet. This would facilitate for being pounded by a very heavy hammer, for example into cracks in the concrete, or into the joints between fire doors. The sword would be pointy, but relatively not pointy, more like a viking sword. I should feel comfortable pounding on the sword with a sledgehammer without fearing I will deform or damage it.

First, that would not be a sword, or even bear any meaningful resemblance to a sword. Second, I had to try pounding a heavy digging bar into an unexpected layer of clay, putting up some fence posts. I was using a twenty-pound hammer. Couldn't do it - the bar, a thick monolithic piece of iron specifically made for this kind of thing, mushroomed and started to crack. What you want would have to be some kind of springy, hardened steel, and I must imagine heat treating a huge lump like that would be a nightmare... Third, are you familiar with Michael "michaelcthulhu" Craughwell?

It almost sounds like you're looking for a crowbar though, no joke. Just in the shape of a sword. Is that right?

You're turning swords into ploughshares! Sorry, no idea how to get such a thing.

Not sure if your post is a joke. I work in construction and if you want to dig in dirt, pound into concrete etc then buy tools to do those things. What you’ve described ceased to be a sword about one or two sentences in. What you describe is a tool in the shape of a sword and that is not the best shape for the jobs you detailed.

I don't think you understand a sword. You could do a search on YouTube for "large sword" and get some idea and to find someone willing to take a commission. But I think you are barking up the wrong tree.

Check out Badger Blades, assuming they still exist. They build super heavily built swords.

You might be better served with a one piece steel spiked tomahawk or warhammer. Nobody makes what you described and I can't imagine one working out very well... unless you're literally just looking for a prybar that you want shaped like a gladius just for fun, to have something different.

Thats a pretty good approximation,, but even prybars are thinner than i am thinking about.

You would have to have it custom made, and I can't imagine it would be too challenging for a smith that has a forge or kiln that can heat the whole thing equally for its heat treat. It would probably have to be forged out of barstock, because a piece of bar thick enough to grind it out would be really expensive and would make it a ton of work.

Whew, 4.5 lb mutant slayer... I confess I'm curious to see how well it could handle. Can't be too bad with a short blade and a long handle.

Funny thing is, I'm just waiting for a Windlass Giant Ceremonial Kukri to arrive. I was so tempted to test how such a beast handles. But the OP request would be 3 or 6 of those welded together, wow...

Can’t believe anyone is taking this guy seriously. Just watched his video. So should you guys. He asked a question, so I answered. You guys seem to be tripping over the question lol. If this guy wants a bunk sword, then so be it 😂 Not sure if he's trolling, but if people are actually trolled, the problem isn't entirely in him. If he isn't trolling, might as well let him be wrong, as MOK stated

The way I see it, if he's a troll, the best thing to do is to treat him with patience and civility and not give him the rise he's looking to get out of us. Nyah nyah!
If he's genuinely misinformed, the best thing to do is to treat him with patience and civility and help him learn better so ultimately everyone wins. Yay!
