YOU WIELD THE SWORD THAT IS RIGHTLY MINE!!!!!!! Correction... "So...you have found the power that is...rightly mine!" Great find Sir Thor, very cool. Funny, if I ever go for a custom, I'd commission Voltan's sword... brotherbanzai comes to mind...

It should be remembered that, for all its goofy cheese, Hawk was one of the very first of the generation of fantasy sword epics that ruled the 80's. There had been very little of this in the 70's, but within a few year after Hawk the Slayer we had Conan, Excalibur, Beastmaster, the underrated Dragonslayer, etc. I don't know whether it *started* this wave, but it was the first big one to arrive on it.

What was the ultra-cheesy movie with the guy in a loin-cloth and not much else who kept on pulling out throwing knives? That one absolutely KILLED ME! Where the hell did he keep them all?

Yes, I saw this and immediately thought of Brotherbanzai... But truly, looking at the hilt...it's clunky...plus, I'd have at least put in a quartz stone...at least. Bah...listen to me whine...I'll be watching the 'Ator Fighting Eagle' series if anyone needs me...

Beastmaster had, like Blade, a "glaive" ... Attachments:

How about 'The Sword and the Sorcerer' with that 3 bladed sword that shot the blades on Estes rocket engines and wire... Classic! OMG. Saw that at theater when it came out with girlfriend. I didn’t know anything about swords at the time and was complaining about how much a three bladed sword would weigh( quietly while movie was going on). She says “It’s a magical sword so doesn’t weigh that much( I did an eye roll). When the blades shot out of the sword she says “See, I told you it was a magical sword.” I hated when she was “right”. And while we’re at it, again not knowing anything about real swords, I alway chuckled and cringed when someone (thinking about you Beastmaster and others) would pull a sword out of a leather or wood sheath and the sound effects would go “shiiiing” like coming out of metal scabbard. And Beastmaster didn’t even have a proper sheath. Just about a leather sleeve about 3-4 inches wide so whole blade was exposed when sheathed. Thank goodness for Tanya Roberts making the movie bearable. Haha

talking cheesy fantasy movies and "glaive" called things... Talk about an over-hyped magic weapon. The one time it was used in a fight, and it couldn't even seal the deal (that required weird wedding flame-thrower power). Krull had some big ideas, but lacked the budget to realize most of them.

I liked the glass spider the most, Holger the Giger-like design on the "slayers" and the "beast"... it is a strange blend of Science Fiction and Fantasy. Oh, and Robbie Coltrane, Liam Neeson...

No joke, it's a better Conan movie than any official Conan movie ever made. Are you kidding me MOK! The first Conan movie was the best movie of that type to come out up till then and beyond. Up to then “sword and sandal” movies were at the bottom of movie genres below even sci fi movies (Star Wars changed that genre). Use to watch Sons of Hercules on Saturday mornings and loved them but they were called spaghetti sword and sandal shows. Low budget. DeLaurentis(not sure spelling) brought in a big budget, a real martial artist to teach the three main characters sword work(he’s the one that slaps Arnold and kicks the other body builder in the nads), high quality film, and made fantasy films mainstream. I think I saw all those type of films back then and none imo could hold a candle to Conan. Not saying it was an Oscar quality film but come on. I think it changed Hollywood’s attitude towards that type of film. Anyways, sorry for the rant but I guessed you just touched a nerve about one of my favorite films of that type. Hope we’re good.
