I have bought some mineral oil to protect my blades.
Any tips or general advice on how to coat my sword or how much to coat my sword with?
I am new to blades and just want to make sure I take good care of them.

Clean the blade properly, then apply a thin layer with a rag, make sure everything's covered. You don't have to drench it.
Check it regularly, like once a month or weekly, depending on climatic conditions... oil attracts dust attracts moisture attracts rust. Reapply after use. If you don't use it, you might want to use something like Renwax.

Ditto on the lightest even coat you can apply and give some thought to where any excess oil might go with time. Store with blade down or horizontal to keep it off the handle. If you google Brownells or other firearms sites, they sell heavy duty aluminum bags for rifles or handguns that come with a rust inhibitor.

microfiber cloth is what i use, i just do a few drops of oil on the cloth and wipe down the entire blade, and fittings if they are also steel, once every 3-4 weeks depending on humidity, ofc if its really humid u do it more. wipe off the old oil before putting on new oil

I should mention, what I have is actually 3-in-1 oil, not mineral oil. I have read this is fine to use.
Does this change your advice any?

Yeah, 3-in-1 and similar products are functionally interchangeable with pure mineral oil in this context. Thinnest possible contiguous coating over every square millimeter of steel.
