That's a smart move...I have collected firearms for a long time and its always better to have a few quality pieces or ones you really like than dozens of ones that are only so/so.

Why the H/T Viking over the H/T Norman?

It's the steel on the inside that counts.

I have both, and one is just as bad-a** as the other, but just a different feel. I prefer cutting with my Norman because the pommel is more comfortable on the swing. That's just me though. The Viking just looks........wicked. (And also cuts like a MO-FO!) ----

I hope to get a H/T Viking some day. But I have enough Viking style swords, so I'd want to swap out the guard and pommel for something more my tastes.
No one has mentioned the other Viking style swords Windlass has to offer or the Hanwei Godfried. The latter is one of my favorite one-handed swords, its so light, well-balanced, and agile. Highly recommended.
I have a couple of older Windlass Viking style swords that are no longer being offered, both very cool. I've heard good things about the Leuterit, but have never handled one. No one has yet (unless I missed it) mentioned their Sticklestad of Ulfberht. I own both of those, and highly recommend them, as well. They almost equal the Godfried in their agileness. I think both can be found cheaper than any of the Hanwei models mentioned in this thread.

Model 8 of Ronin's Euro collection just got an upgrade, much more distal taper, better (and shorter) grip:
Reviews of almost all other swords are on the main site, including the aforementioned Sticklestad.
Stats of the current version of the Legacy Arms Witham are as follows:
Overall: 37 1/4" Blade Length: 30 1/2" Handle Length: 6 3/4" Weight: 3.3 Point of Balance: 4 1/2" Blade Steel: 5160
When Shootermike reviewed it here it was about the same weight but more tip heavy. He was able to puncture tires with thrusts so the tempering can't be all THAT bad as some people tend to think..
They are probably closer to the historical originals in many ways, both good and bad.
Historically most Viking swords were much lighter than the layman tends to think and with many pattern welded, they would have - as the sagas suggest, occasionally bend or twist hitting a shield in the heat of combat, etc. Better than breaking - and without modern crucible steel and tempering techniques what you get is pretty authentic..
Within the selection of swords reviewed there is something for everyone I think. Personally, I am still a sucker for the Sticklestad. It's different than most other Windlass swords and it's pure speculation, but I think it is made by one of their local subcontracting forges rather than the main facility. But that is just a guess and I have not confirmed it.
