Hello to all , new here on this forum & would appreciate some constructive comments on my posting please.
Please dont scream Fake as your only answer as it was knowingly purchased as a replica but there are quality parts to
this item from my knowledge in the Antique field. It may well be a replica but i do not recognize this sword & scabbard.
It could be a total made fantasy combination but it does have age to it not modern or current.
A little about myself. A collector of German militaria WW1 & WW2 Period but not knowledgeable about Asian Items.
Also a collector of Antique & Vintage Brass Wooden items.
I have purchased the pictured item mainly because i just liked the look of it after several viewings & handling.
From my knowledge of edged weapons its not perfect in a number of ways from my experience but from my lack of knowledge on
Asian edged weapons i would like help.
What i do know about this item is , that all the fittings on the saya are solid brass including the tsuka (handle term i believe).
The script on the blade appears to be calligraphy of some type , Persian , Asian ? Scabbard is painted steel & the colour underneath
the black paint is a light lime green greyish colour. The blade is slightly loose in the Tsuka giving perception of a half tang but when
holding the sword at top end of the tsuka and giving a slight up & down stroke you can definitely feel movement in the inside top end giving an
impression of a full tang. Maybe a pin missing in the top end that cannot be seen because i believe the tsuka butt cap has been off at some stage
& put back wrongly due to the fact i can see traces of glue under magnifying glass ( this is just my conjecture though).
The hand guard ( tsuba i believe its called ) is solid with no , i dont know what you call them i think it is a kogai hole ?
Blade is chrome , chromed what i dont know ( its not magnetic so that throws me a bit ) because i have an authentic chromed german WW2 sword blade and its magnetic.
Blade edge has about 12 tiny chips down the length.
Straight line length of sword is 680mm , in scabbard is 720mm.
Appears to be crane birds & 3 petal flower decoration everywhere except flowers on cord hanger strap end brass are different shape & 4 petal.
I was told by seller total weight including scabbard is 1.7 kg which i havnt had a chance to verify yet but certainly feels at least that weight.
So please any help would be much appreciated on being able to tell me what this all means , replica , fantasy or not.
