Loved the read. I could never imagine using olive oil on my swords but if it worked it worked

Seems to work perfectly fine, too, although I personally do prefer mineral oil. As mentioned in the Victorian article, you do have to take some steps to prevent it from going rancid (somewhat less of a concern with frequently used and washed tools).

Olive oil is also popular with modern day blowpipers using aluminium pipes.
