Hi!
Overall Assessment: Not a frail flail fail... but a weapon that will turn your enemies pale and turn tail and wail, as your gale of strikes, crushed their mail!
bought it from the Kult
kultofathena.com/product.asp?item=401042200
Total cost: $71.75 (that includes shipping)
Specs:
Overall Length: 37 1/2''
Chain: 12''
Shaft: 19 1/4''
Weight: 4 lb 6.6 oz
Pic below shows size compared to Albion Knight sword
Spiked Balls are hollow but seemed to be very strong and incredible durable. I don't ever expect them ever to break (but may rust)
Handle(Shaft) seems durable as well. the wrappings are certainly some sort of bootleg leather.. but no matter.. for the price its awesome!
Chain: at first looking at the chains, i thought they were small and was a little worried about them breaking. After a few strikes with it, they really seem to ok.. If actually worried about them you could easily replace them if need be, without breaking the bank.
Handling: was quite awkward...for me. total weight is 4.4 lbs with each spiked ball being 1.7 lbs.. so with both balls.. 77% of the weight is at the very end of this weapon! A remedied this by removing one of the balls.. see below pic
I bought one of screw together links (shown in pic) so I can always reattached it if I want.
Strikes: Swinging with just 1 ball was much easier. smashed the bark off of trees. It put some deep dents into 2x4 planks of wood and started to crack the wood.. after a few blows. I hit some concrete paver tiles and it chipped and cracked them!
the spikes on the ball, did not bend or brake.. I suspect the ball and spikes will last forever!
The only problem I see, is going back to the chains themselves.. They didn't fail nor bend or stretch..but if they did, they really could cause some serious injury! after striking something.. the ball never stayed "stuck" in the target but bounced around. I plan on buying some chains that I know are certified for superior strength. Maybe the chains that come with it are very good.. but I just don't know so i will replace them.
Functionality: After striking a few things.. i'm not sure what else to do with it as in I don't believe there is any skill with the flail to master.
also as far as i know, wasn't really practical except to defeat shields. The spike ball could wrap over a shield and hit your target.
Anywho, if you are in the market just to try something "different" i'd highly recommend it! Even though its practically the cheapest flail and listed as "Decorative" vs being "Battle Ready", it seems to be very battle ready! If you don't have a "warm and fuzzy" about the chains.. they are easily replaced.
oh! also you "might" be worried of the chains separating from the shaft.. I truly don't feel like they would.. but just a disclaimer.. be safe!
