www.msrgc.com/I missed doing anything last year and blamed it on the weather. I am once again tentatively going to set up at least something (knives and a handful of swords&books). I'm getting old or something and my motivation is down a bit flying solo but it's good to air some stuff out. The younger guys are doing couples stuff on weekends now. Ironic, in that the fellow first inviting me down there had been in it 100%. Time changes priorities. Once I start loading, I always have trouble not grabbing another box or bag. Maybe just the militia swords this year. I will update that Friday but I'm somehow praying for rain. What a lousy attitude :hyuk: We'll see. Anyway, Road Island at its best on the first weekend of fall. Get off my duff and just do it. Cheers GC 2017

Long range weather is looking promising and I am running out of excuses not to show at least a few swords. One early forecast was showing an inch of rain for the 22nd but I may have had the wrong state. I'll only know for sure, if I have actually loaded some stuff. Aside from feeling lousy after a jawbreaker episode, I'm as able as I'll ever be for now. Cheers GC Last eagle in and would be one of a few swords not in the distant storage. A couple of militia swords, a European cuttoe, an m1832 artillery sword, another spadroon and a 17th century feldegen would easily get gathered here. My main cache is less easily at hand but I'll know next week if I load out a large horde. The knives would be there.

I'd love to go to that but I'm in Seattle. Does "Jawbreaker" mean dentist? Sounds unpleasant whatever it is.

This event occurs the same weekend I turn 50!?! FIFTY!?! I can't believe it. I am not dealing with it well. Only now do I realize that time is no longer on my side. ....been working on my Harley Evo motorcycle to get it running again (it set during my illness). Gonna ride it on my birthday and pretend I am in my late twenties again. LOL! Forty was the one I was depressed about. Fifty was kind of 'meh.' Sixty was 'Hm, look at all the neat discounts I can get now...'

I was 49 when I started traveling to this event. At post stroke +11, naps are nice at 65. Last year was the first weekend I have missed since 2003.
The weather forecast has already changed but I'll know better next week. We did one Sunday indoors but the fiddle stage is only ten feet away. We did one Saturday during a post hurricane deluge that collapsed a canopy at last moment. We had forgotten to look up and saw many gallons of water bellied in the top. Fortunately the van was right there. Other damp days saw a lot of wiping and fussing about blades.
Now I just get fussy about sweaty fingers thumbing edges and absolutely will be cancelling my attendance at even a hint of rain.
We shall see
One friend who had visited, was traveling from northern Vt to RI. I used to be up by Worcester, MA but just a few hills away now.
Cheers GC
Grumpy cat says he'd really just as soon nap but I missed it last year and would again.

All systems go but a much smaller lot of swords. Pictures to follow after. I'll be out on the field instead of next to the hawk tossing, just to save time and effort..

At Andi's request
The kids are always great during those two great days annually.
The camera is in the vehicle, so no pictures unless I survive day two. Not to worry but there were fewer setting up than I had seen. The National Guard had been bringing a portable wall but that was not on site. The old blacksmith/tinker is gone, which I used to look for as one of my generation.
Semi roasted in this Indian Summer weather. I did set up in the early day shade but by 2pm, I was in the incubator. Of all the folk that say they'd love to help, there has only been one regular that has helped a great deal. The neighbor hawk tossing guy and senior at the club is also always ready. I hadn't brought my evening heart meds and it showed I should have, and hydrated a bit more.
"Where are the crusader and Kill Bill swords!" A standard from people that had grown up with seeing so many genre displayed. I have missed only three days since 2003. I missed last year and a Sunday back in 2006. The most activity is typically up at the gun ranges.
Oh, Sundays are always busier. From pre tween to the silver sneakers, even just a few swords and a table of knives get some attention. One sale for a couple of cheaper bargains and a couple of definite for tomorrow.
I'll be in traction by Sunday night and I'll put up some snaps.

Saturday morning. I know folk want to see more swords but I packed out only a few. a couple of Saturday's posers I did set up in the mini forest again and I have a great view of the hawk tossing station. The kids do an amazing job. The wee lass cutting cards by her third throw More naturals A four year old getting coached No age limits I changed up the tables a little Sunday and moved a deeper into this pine grove. Pain and boredom have strange bedfellows Lincoln's finest with the feldegen Starting to pack Sunday and the hawk tossing station is growing a line, right around quitting time. Of course as soon as I close the last box, a father and son want to review everything they saw the previous day. That at 5:15 pm. The hawk station still going and everyone seems a little tired. Stragglers coming down from the ranges that had closed almost half an hour before. That's about it. The club really needs more of a draw. The archery company left early due to lack of business. A lot of the older club membership stopped by and thanking me for showing up. The blacksmith/tinker that used to camp out for the weekend and the National Guard a no show with their portable wall. The big field turned into a parking lot Sunday afternoon. Very much a family and freinds event, with the ranges where most spend their time. I sold some and gave some gifts. Cheers GC

Are all those swords your own?
Looks like a fun day. I wish we had something like that where I live

Oh yes, just half a dozen of some sixty antiques this eekend. The lead post showing my 2017 display was the rack of all eagle pommel swords and several spadroons in a cane type rack. The only reproductions in the first post are a Cold Steel English Backsword and a Hanwei mortuary. Although I do still have some medieval and renaissance reproductions (and a few other modern made swords) my primary interests and collecting are of the antiques. When you look at what an Albion cost and others in a high price bracket, I'd rather spend on actual history in hand. I still look at modern swords but usually end up buying old stuff.

Great event! I would have been eyeballing those tables for sure. Looks like the Gerber BMF is missing from the later photos. I wish I had picked one up when they were readily available in the late 80s/early 90s.

No, the BMF is in many of the table pictures and hefted by quite a few.
