It took a bit of work,a few mistakes but have made some advances on the seax I have been working. I originally wanted to do a one piece handle but need a 6 inch drill bit and not easy to find so I made some scales, chiselled out the tang slot and fitted.I am going to a nearby town tomorrow to chat with a leather worker who has experience wrapping handles to discuss options. Handle fits snug on the transition from tang to blade, there is a tiny scratch that has magically appeared very close to that area and very small gap between handle and the blade on the top, which I am thinking it shifted somehow in the gluing process. Will try to get some images of the hilt joins tomorrow First ever blade I have made and pretty happy, but I have learned a hell of a lot,and the next will be better, and quicker.

Congratulations, man! I bet there's many a knifesmith/maker out there who wishes their first knife came out looking that good. Very nice work.

Thanks guys. Like I said I am pretty happy with it,a couple of very small things that could be better but it has turned out very well. Going to start finishing a spear point seax tomorrow, have another broken back a bit wider ready for heat treat and both are around the same length as this one.

It's the steel on the inside that counts.

That's one heck of a polish job you've done there! Looking good! I've got a couple of seax blades in rough shape that I need to finish myself....one o' these days. Too hot to be in my shop, and I don't think my wife would want to hear a grinder running in the house.

Thanks. It turned out well but I hope to get better.I use my lapidary diamond wheels for the polish process.Gets a little hot here at times too and not looking forward to summer.
