Though I have been on the forum for awhile, I've never properly introduced myself. I live in north eastern ohio, work as a machinist full time, am going to school to get my degree in ballistic science and firearms technology, and just recently (about five months ago) had my first son, Thomas the third.
My love for swords began when I was very young, like most people. It began in 95,when I refused to dress up as anything besides a Knight for Halloween (so many years consecutively that I began to have physical pain from the tightness of the plastic armor), and further developed with the release of Final Fantasy VII on the playstation. I then later began to watch a lot of anime, and obsessed over anything in movies, television, videogames, and books that involved a fair amount of swordplay. In my early teens this drove me more towards Japanese swords, and I painfully recall spewing the common tropes associated with knowing nothing about real swords. I drooled over the BudK catalog in my mid teens, and hurt myself quite severely with the one "sword" I did end up purchasing from them (I fell awkwardly, bending the blade and driving it into my ribcage - all I remember thinking while bleeding in the woods with my younger brother, is that my all powerful legendary blade had been destroyed). Fast forward a couple of very overly romantic and hormone filled years obsessing over the opposite sex, I started to get back into my more typical interests of my past. I do remember watching a lot of Paul on youtube in the beginning of the SBG channel, and thinking that now armed with the ultimate knowledge of swords and my previous mistakes, I purchased my first real sword, a hanwei practical bastard sword for what at the time, was a huge amount of money for me to spend (I think around the same price they go for now). I ended up dragging a lot of my friends in this hobby, and kept that hanwei for close to seven years before I broke it "sparring" (note:read as violently clubbing eachother) with a friend who was armed with a DSA blade, though I don't remember which model. After that, my only real exposure to handling blased was the several that my close friends purchased at the time(obviously all DSA, because they witnessed one break my legendary blade V2 in half). We were minors, and very hard on our blades by typical standards. Fast forward about eight more years, and after drooling over the Albion Count for as long as I had been with my now childs mother, she gave me her blessing and allowed me to spend over $1200 on one. 364 grueling days later it arrived, and I've cherished it since.
Currently, I own the Albion Count, a long bladed hewing spear from windless, a seax of beagnoth from Deepeeka that is begging to be taken out back, and have two swords on order, one custom coming from Elgur Swordmakery, and a DSA Waylander that will take some time due to special requests.
I also have a late 14th century plow faced bacinet commissioned to Jeff Wasson that cost more than all of the weapons I own and have on order, and a kite shield from deepeeka that I painted my coat of arms on.
I made a medieval feast knife some time ago that I plan to modify to more accurately represent a 14th century variant, and am in the process of making tempered spring steel scale armor with riveted 7mm rings that I made a post about in the arnor section.
I have talked to quite a few of my fellow forumites in other threads, but I thought it was about time I introduced myself so maybe further create some forum friends, or "sword friends" as Mr.Jenson would say.
