Hey folks,
Discussing a custom project with a UK based smith today. he has 3 types of steel in house - 1070, 01 tool steel and 5160.
Due to his inventory he has suggested 1070 for a 22" Fulham style gladius but that he may have just enough 5160 to make the same blade.
I am not as well versed in the properties of these steels as I could be, so I'd like to open the floor to any suggestions you might have regarding the three options available.

Realistically, the difference in them is minimal. As long as it's heat treated right with a good temper, any of them will work. Here's info on 1070: www.steelforge.com/aisi-1070/It'll do just fine.

I make mine from 1075 and 1095... Albion makes theirs from 5160... either is good.
