I bet you could an interesting rivet effect by using a finishing nail with a top diameter that's just a bit wider than the hole. That could work! I'd just have to find one large enough for the hole but short enough not to het the other side

If you cut along the diagonal, you can retain enough of a point to still easily penetrate wood.

Hooray for Cold Steel ! They finally paid attention to customer modifications and made it easier on us! The old, shiny black paint on their tomahawk heads is GONE! ....... I just received my second CS Norse Hawk, and the old stuff has been replaced by a fairly thin coat of flat black spray paint. Took me about 20 minutes with some sand paper and elbow grease to remove it all, and that included a bathroom break and a beer. I hope they do this to the war hammer.......I WILL get another. Hell, yeah....... 20 minutes work...

You know, I guess I owe you an apology, Owl. I don't mean to pirate on your thread. Hell, you may be trying to start a business here. If that was your intention, then by all means---go for it. I can't imagine anyone who wouldn't prefer one of your works of art over what you get off the shelf! I think it's cool that you are doing this. These axes and 'hawks are a blank canvas waiting for a masterpiece to be painted. You're certainly making it happen. Fantastic works, one and all.............

They changed the coating? Thank goodness! I sanded 12 of those by hand when they had the previous coating, it was horrible! I second your comment on the war hammer, hopefully they change that too Nah don't apologize! I like seeing the work that other folks do, I'm not making this a sales thread or anything. I've been a business for a while now but I usually sell out of a tent at Renaissance Faires, it wasn't my intention to sell on here unless someone specifically asked. Feel free to keep posting anything you like, I really don't mind at all, in fact I enjoy it! You're right about them being excellent an canvas! Thanks for your compliments

Great work once again! That Pipe Hawk looks cool in the blue. Yep, the old thick, shiny stuff is GONE! Matter of fact, the spot where the set screw goes in looked like it actually had a piece of masking tape over it before painting. It was bare metal! I bet I could have one done in about 8-10 minutes on a wire brush wheel. Huzzah!

I'll definitely order more now, I was thinking of just sticking to the hand axe and battle axes but if they changed the coating it'll be worth doing the others lol

I ordered the Norse hawk from Amazon, and it was sold and shipped by Amazon. Depending on where you buy yours, you MAY or MAY NOT get the new finish---so buying a couple dozen might NOT be a good idea. Getting stuck with a bunch of old stock would suck.

Sweet. Love the spiral design. That must have taken a while. I wish I could do stuff like that again, but between a stroke in my late 40's and Carpal Tunnel Syndrome in both hands, I just don't have the manual dexterity for it anymore. I'm supposing you use some type of rotary tool? Like a Dremel? What bit do you use? I have the deluxe Dremel tool kit with all the goodies, but I bet I haven't tried half of them. I may give some practice on some cheap hardware store handles. If nothing else, I'll have a badass yard rake for the Fall! .......

Yeah I use a rotary and a variety of bits, though I don't recall their names. They're round, and not the diamond crusted type, more of a blade. Sorry that I can't remember more for you! Whenever I need replacements perhaps I can take a look at the packages and get back to you

Sweeeeet! I'm so jealous of your talent and patience. You've truly made some 'thoroughbred' axes from some ---less than spectacular---pieces. Light the fires, and hoist sail....!!!

One of these days I'll get the tools and forge to make my own, perhaps when I sell enough of the modded stuff!

You go, Man!...And I lift my horn of ale to you! Spectacular....simply spectacular. If you don't get a sign-on from Cold Steel, it's they who are missing out. Your work is beyond superb. I bow to you, Sir. Forever let it be known....You should be known as...'AxeMaster'. Or, you could be 'AxeMaster', the artist formally known as 'owl'. Great job, man. You ROCK............
