Hi there,
I have had the blade of a cavalry saber missing a hilt for several years and am trying to figure out how to go about making it functional.
Wondering if anyone has suggestions on where to acquire a replacement hilt, or even how to fabricate a one.
I am on the verge of purchasing on of the inexpensive replicas, removing the blade and trying that.( biggest concern here is most that I have seen are screw threaded tangs, and my blade is not)
Also how was the blade secured in a hilt without a threaded tang?
Apologies for the many questions but, I have spent many hours trying to find this info already.
Thanks for any help!

Photos?
I have rehilted antique swords, and have owned and tinkered with a number of original cavalry swords, and would be happy to lend my hand at it.

The hilt assembly on most original swords was through peening the tang through the pommel cap, so basically hammering the tang down into a mushroom shape over the pommel cap.
