Holy poo, y'all!!!! Here it is!!!! I was gonna sell it but no one bit before it came and now, hell no! I'd even go to a 38" blade for this thing!!! But the 33" is good enough! I know we like to tend to poo on Ryansword because of what they did in the past with regards to lying about their blade construction. Most notoriously the sanmai YouTube vid.
But I was getting down to no more sources for swords to look through, save the crazy expensive nihonto or something from longship...and decided to take a look back at what the old places were doing. As we all know most of the Chinese forges were all coming from the same place anyway and katana had become so common that even all of those forges were now offering sanmai at lower prices. Ryansword too is the only maker other than windlass or muerto or Albion that make the Conan sword and I wanted a functional one. The windlass and muerto aren't that functional if at all and the Albion is priced way out of range for what I wanted. And since it's an exact movie rep, the balance for a sword like that, with all that bronze, was gonna be bad. So I took a final look at ryanswords. They had gotten much better about quality and truth and I took a stap at them. Only on a sale piece on a katana so nothing I wouldn't be out if it wasn't good and they were back to their old games. The games that I still see others like any tsunami wetf or so on. It was sanmai and real! Sweet! So I got another. Swee deal. A great piece for a great price. Seems as though they had either gotten enough business that they could offer real lamination on the cheapish. Their temper too was correct now. Some others still have temper issues...didn't find that out till way later. A bunch of forges don't temper to what they claim...but anyway so back to ryansword..I went to Facebook to see if they had a page. They did and had even newer projects they were showing. Different things I had never seen done in the market yet for Chinese made katana. Personal projects from customers that don't even make it on the selling sites! I contacted them through Facebook and we discussed this. Working together through sketches and offering them real blade theories from the best Western style makers about taper and balance, TWAS DEVELOPED THE THUNDERCATS SWORD!!!! I couldn't be happier! Well done! The Conan sword is coming. I had them make a special one...
