Just realized this is gonna be my first post here after lurking for a few years... that aside. Had this blade in mind for a long time, just received it yesterday, in terms of balance and durability it feels wonderful in the hand and is built extremely solidly. Don't typically like the aesthetics of a blade to be predetermined for me- so "tactical" minimally decorated blades like this work best as "blank slates" in my eyes.
The majority of the blade is appropriately, but not overly sharp except for the last 7 or so inches which seem to have been left rather dull, no actual complaints there.
But I have been seeing some rather odd thin, shiny metal shavings covering the blade after returning it to the scabbard/saya with fresh oil. After seeing them I looked down in there with a flashlight, turns out it's absolutely coated with these things on the inside, some are very very large. My immediate concern was a sharp edge or bit inside the scabbard is scratching against the blade. But so far I cannot verify this, the only metal portions of it that could possibly be the culprit are the two pairs of screws that hold the MOLLE belt loop slots in place. However these don't protrude far enough to even see from the inside with my flashlight, and I've seen no corresponding abrasion on the blade's flat sides, that would likely be the ones hitting the screws if that was the case. The only other thing I could see was a pair of plastic inserts that are a little uneven, but again they aren't contacting the majority of the blade, and I can't see plastic shaving 9260 carbon steel as if it were a tin can with only a slow drawing motion.
So what exactly is going on? is this paint? leftover metallic shavings from in-factory? or is there actually something inside the scabbard slicing away at the blade? If anyone owns this or the other swords from this line and has encountered this, please let me know. It's unlike anything I've seen before.

First try a magnet to determine if the filings are iron/steel. I have one of the APOC swords but don't see any shavings at all. It's most likely from something in the plant where they are assembled and not something being shaved from your scabbard. The only way I can think of getting the pieces out would be to flush it out with water under pressure through the drain hole in the tip of the scabbard. You will have to dry it out before resheathing but, a hair dryer should do the trick.
Welcome to the Forum.

Whatever they are they did not want to react magnetically at all, only stuck due to their being as fine as hair. Might have to end up flushing them out.

Welcome!
I had one and didn't have that issue, perhaps it's plastic being shaved off?

Welcome! I had one and didn't have that issue, perhaps it's plastic being shaved off? Likely, although I don't see any shiny or metallic plastic anywhere on it. Just ended up taking the scabbard outside and blasting a compressed air duster into the humidity hole, blew most of them out. Don't seem to collect on the blade as often now.

I received an APOC katana recently but did not observe any metal shavings stuck to the blade. I was curious after viewing your post and used a flashlight to look inside its sheath. There was a shaving present as you had described (but only a single one in mine and definitely metallic) while the blade is undamaged. So like another poster suggested, the shavings probably dropped into the sheath at the factory or during assembly.
