For some reason I woke up at about 2300 and had almost gotten back to sleep when I all most was rolled out of bed. I mean my bed did a number on me. I thought it was my dog but he was under the covers and still. Then I realized my M1840 hanging on the wall was clanging against my shield. EARTHQUAKE. It was rather sharp but of short duration for the violence. Perhaps I had gotten to sleep and was conscience only for part of it. Earthquakes are common in my world but never experienced one of this magnitude with such a short duration. I must have dozed off after all. I don’t know where it was centred nor strength, I’ll find out no doubt on the morning news. But I think somebody got it. Just turned on the TV for news. One station was talking about Honduras’ problems. The other, typical of TV news, doesn’t know beans other than there was a quake and is doing much talking saying nothing. I did find out it was centred over on the west coast. No damage reports other than a photo from a cell phone with a store’s merchandise on the deck. Now I'll try to get back to sleep again.

Saw the report on my phone app. It was a 6.5 right? 6.4. It was on the west coast and to the south. Reports are confusing but I do believe it was south of the border down in Panama. No injuries reported so far. Another phone photo of debris on the deck.

Years back I had an afternoon nap interrupted by a rare-where-I-live earthquake. Can't remember the scale, I wanna say 6ish, but the epicenter was some 15-20 miles away. I remember I woke up to loud rattling and vibration, which I passed off as the usual passing trains (less than a mile to the nearest track) until the real shake settled in, by which time I was quite well awake. News the next day revealed almost no damage, so that was a plus. Edit - Geez, almost seven years ago: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2011_Virginia_earthquake

Seattle nisqually earthquake of 2001. The power, uncertainty, and helplessness make your eyes bug out like a ring tailed lemur. I fear the BIG ONE that will hit one day.

God bless. There have been earthquakes along the circumference of the Pacific rim this past week. Some more significant than others. quakes.globalincidentmap.com/

Good that nothing worse happened. This quake is even mentioned in our German news. Tbh I wonder what happens if you live in rooms full of swordstands like Dave Kelly, kinda jackstraws?

I used to live in California, and lived thru all 3 major quakes, and I was lucky enough to live pretty much ground zero for all of them. After having everything fall over, break etc, I made a rule...
Never put something on the wall over your head you don't want to fall on it.
Swords?! Never...

Dang, glad everything is okay. Last week we had three within 30 minutes of each other. First a 3.3, then about half an hour later a 5.4 and 5.5 right on top of each other. Didn't notice the 3.3(we get a lot of smaller ones and you don't really notice after a while) but we really felt the other two. 6.4 would definitely get your attention, hahaha.

Glad you are safe. But as a public service message: this is the reason why you should never hang a sword over your bed....

I see the quake was upgraded to 6.7. No real harm to Costa Rica though.
