Binged the HBO 2004-06 series before viewing the movie that was released recently. Wished this excellent series lasted a few more seasons and wasn't fed to Mr. Wu's pigs. Ian McShane was a standout of a great cast.

I watched it back when it was on air. Great show, haven't seen the movie yet but heard good things.

Watched it back then and really enjoyed it. Saw the movie a few weeks ago, I wasn't disappointed. For those of you who haven't seen any of the episodes it has a great story arc and the dialogue is outstanding.
I forgot who said it but it went something like this: it was how William Shakespeare would have written it, if Shakespeare was a longshoreman.

I watched it back when it was on air. Great show, haven't seen the movie yet but heard good things. It was far less ferocious, partially a study in the affects of time on the inhabitants. Still alright and a must see for those who watched the series. There seemed to be room for a sequel, though I wouldn't wager a bet on that. Bummer that Powers Boothe (Cy) passed away before filming the movie.

Yea I figured it'd be like that since a major plot point in the series was fighting statehood.

lol The cast had wanted to wrap things up a long time ago and considering the passage of time, the writers did ok. Honestly, they could have gotten another season out of this later timeline and this wrap up doesn't stand alone very well (imo) as there are too many references to the past that aren't quite clearly outlined. An edit to offer this timeline. There are some continuity issues throughout the series and movie but the movie is a must see if you saw the series episodes. I'll not mention the largest spoilers. www.deadwood.com/history/history-timeline/

I read up on the reasons for not continuing, and there were quite a few, not the least of which were costs compared to lower rating for the second season. Interestingly, the real Hearst was nothing like the villain portrayed, but from the tall tails spun about those times it is hard to know fact from glorified fiction. Great show nonetheless.
