I'm not too familiar with this area of reproduction sabers, though I assume many share the issues with other makes. What is there out there in terms of reproduction shashka? I've done a little bit of research and found a manufacturer in Russia that goes by the name of Kizlyar Knives that supposedly do good reproductions.
I'm somewhat curious about them.

Hanwei, Deepeeka and Universal Swords have repros of the shashka-inspired Russian M1881 military saber, the hook-pommeled model without a knucklebow; from what I can tell, at least the Hanwei one is decent in its own right but doesn't really match the originals' blade geometry (not enough distal taper, what a surprise), and none of them actually look like the real thing except from a distance.
Deepeeka also has a really cheap generic take on a more traditional shashka. I have no idea about quality, but last time KoA got a batch they went pretty quick so it seems to be popular, at least.

WIndlass and Cold Steel also have reproductions of military shashka that are...okay.
I've heard good things about Kizlyar's stuff, but in a small sample size. There's a couple Russian sellers on eBay that occasionally put up shashka, and there's vtdaggers who almost always has very ornate offerings for around $4-600+. I hear they're pretty nice, but again, a small sample size.
I'm curious about the Deepeeka offering...but skeptical, because it's Deepeeka...
I personally own one of Hanwei's prototypes, and it's...okay. Probably my favorite, overall, production sword that I own currently...but that doesn't say much for it as I have very few and even this one is far from perfect. I like it best of what little I have, but it could be improved on tremendously.

Kizlyar knives have a good reputation. From memory their shaska is made with some kind of stainless steel although they say it is good for cutting with.

Yeah, FWIW, I have three Kizlyar knives (folding Sterkh, KO-2 dagger and limited edition DV-2 camp knife) and they're all excellent. That saber doesn't look very much like the originals, though - the brass components actually seem pretty faithful for that particular version, but the grip and the blade geometry are quite different. I'd expect good workmanship, but the design is pretty far off. ( Here's an example of the actual officers' version, with a slightly atypical blade but at least it has the spear point..)

I've seen a fair bit about the Hanwei shashka and it does look tempting. I've tried to find other bits of info about the Windlass but with less success. I'd imagine cutting performance would be similar, though the windlass was a simple leather sheath instead of a wooden cored scabbard.
