I just found this while looking for something else on youtube, though I might share. This happened....
These rush to make more and more swords to sell.
My god, something bad could have really happened.

I'm amazed it stayed together as long as it did.

At the end of the video he shows a second katana and says "the second one is ok", which seems to imply it was a one-off (and massive) screw-up.

I mean is it fair then that he dissses the brand after? If it is a lemon, those happen. I blame him more tbh for buying from an unknown seller but that just me.

Unknown seller? Seems all sellers in China are about the same now, selling swords forged at "Hammer Town" in Longquan pretending to be swordsmiths that own a forge.

Obviously this is something "simple" that in the midst of a chinese forge in longquan that probably makes hundreds of swords a monthly, someone "simply" forgot to drill holes and insert the mekugi along in the production line. Which could have resulted in a tragic incident.
I think well know brands, have a minimum of a quality check to guarantee that soemthing like this simply doesnt happen. Or their should be a minimum , but there isnt at some forges, everything can happen i guess.

OK, so they failed to specify "some assembly required"...

No need for holes or mekugi pegs because someone discovered how to use Flex Seal to hold the parts together. It even works underwater!!!! 🙀

Yes the seller is responsible, in as much as he is responsible for his team that make the tsukamaki and assemble the sword, and QC.
While I am not advocating wang-katana (I have dismissed him as a sword source for a while now), mistakes in QC exists everywhere in industry, yes that means people die from QC failure, example: cars, lets keep that in mind before sending a SBG sponsored ninja team to deal with the seller.

Hmm-hmm. I, uh, may have already dispatched the team. I'm...I'm sure everything will be fine. Just, you know, just forget I said anything...

The lack of concern for safety in that video was appalling. Swords without obvious defect occasionally fail too. Or one could lose one's grip on the sword. The guys wife standing a few feet in front of target while he cut it? Friends milling around obliviously while he's cutting? It was pure dumb luck nobody was hurt or killed when the sword failed.
