Gents, is this a real deal? And if it is - WHAT is it? Construction looks OK, but pretty rough - and look at that tang! How thick is that; 10 mm? I would say: Asia, of course... but from where? Certainly not japanese; and it looks too "rough but working" to put it in the tourist corner IMHO. Any ideas, anyone?

That is an odd thing. Definitely not a katana, hopefully not being sold as one, but I'd maybe consider it a dao of some sort. Miao, maybe? I'm not really familiar with the types.
Seems to be of fairly recent construction, though, so not likely antique, if that's important.
Other possibilities may include something Thai or Vietnamese? Not a dha, probably not a guom, but I don't remember what else is out there.

Looks like a dao to me. Handle and scabbard construction are fairly on point stylistically, and the blade shape reminds me of what can be seen on miao dao, as random mentioned. Has some katana-y elements, but that's fair for a modern piece

I would wager on it being a South-East Asian tourist piece. Maybe 1970s or later.
