I smell double morals in the beginning and then a try to make it sound otherwise at the end, but hey that's just me . Oh and I refer to the quote above

Hello guys I'm new to the site and I would like to add a point that I think is missing. With all this back and forth bickering something in this has been lost.
I started collecting blades around 10 years ago and became interested in functional swords around 5 years ago for one reason. I walked past a Kit Rae sword(or whatever you want to call it) and said "wow that looks cool I'll buy it." I now own most of the ancients collection and my fair share of functional swords. You see Kit Rae's designs inspired me to learn about the history and making of swords. If I had bought a junky sword at that time instead of one of a higher quality "feel" then I wouldn't have taken care of it and wouldn't appreciate the feel of a high quality sword now.
In the end Kit Rae's designs have their place and will always have a place in my home. I hope you guys understand the point I am trying to make.

Huh? wow didn't take me long to be bashed. LOL. ; Sorry about that... (That is a bit uncalled for Swordnut, people perform Thread-o-mancy all the time... it does not make them an advertiser... this thread was dead only 6 months... I have seen thread-o-mancy that went back two years... ease off.) I get the point your making... it's just, for me, if I am going to own a sword, I want it to do what a sword was ment to do. If Kit Rae made his stuff functional... out of tempered carbon steal instead of stainless steal and so forth... I might own one of his peices. I don't care about historical accuracy... I collect what I like, what I think looks cool and feels good in my hand. Our very own Brenno of Fable Blades makes some amazing looking Fantasy Style swords... but they are also functional! Thats what I like. I'll never buy a sword just to hang on a wall and collect dust... thats just not me... but I accept that there is MORE then enough room in this world for opinions other then mine. By the Way, Welcome to SBG!

lol, I figure if I want to lop heads I can pull out a functional sword. But a Kit Rae wallhanger works for me too.

Yep we did a thread on threadromancy some time ago and majority voted it was supercool. SBG welcomes threadromancy, and I'll have words to anyone who doesn't. Welcome Daltonchaotic! All I can say is "Why cant they just be fully functional too?"

All I can say is "Why cant they just be fully functional too?" I echo the sentiments of threadomancy, I will sometimes go through backpages and find threads I like...... even clicked on random pages just for the hell of it. As for what got you started Dalton, I agree a kit rae is a least a little better than some stuff out there, and way better than of the junk I've seen at flea markets. I think Bren said it best though,....why can't they just be fully functional?

Just because it's called 'art' doesn't make it good to everyone; I for one find Jean-Michel Basquiat's work to be hyper-advertised junk- it looks like something a 6th grader would've done while floating on his first acid trip. Art critics raved over this 'Neo expressionist' wunderkind, but all I see is, in a word, crap.
Art is subjective; what is a masterpiece to one, is a POS to someone else. What makes this site, and us in general, interesting is that we all do not agree on everything; it'd be very boring and stuffy if that were the case.
Having said that, I think its great if some of you are into SLO's; I am not, have had my experiences with them and found them wholly inadequate for what I myself want a sword.
steelservant, you know the guys you ridiculed, the backyard warriors who armor up and take swings at things- I'm one of those guys; I'm a warrior; I'm also a former D&D nerd, current gamerhead, a good son, a stern father, loving husband and a student of the sword. I am all these things, and more- but what I am not, is, closeminded enough to think that only MY way is the right way, or that my opinions matter more than anyone else's. Nor will I attempt to foist my own beliefs on the rest of you simply because I believe I am the only one in the right.
Careful where you cast your stones, that is my advice to you. You never know with whom it is you are truly speaking or referring to, unless you know all of us on a personal basis and have the ability to make an informed judgement; to say that all of us require psychiatric help because you don't understand the why of it just smacks of base ignorance. As such, it is beneath attention but I thought I'd share that with you anyway.
