If you're not *entirely satisfied* with your GSOW, I still happen to be looking for one. Is that a trade proposition? š

It was actually your thread that convinced me that it would most likely work! I have always liked type X and type Xiii blades, and my ultimate goal was a better cutting sword. I must say, I am pretty much convinced to try this with the GSOW instead. I think I'll go with the same blade length as Bryan's, and then shorten the grip to ~8 inches. Now I just have to wait for that next bonus!

Taking over 5" from the tip is going to seriously changed the current distal taper. Are you sure you won't consider removing length from the back of the blade and current tang. Reprofiling the shoulders and back of the blade is a little more work but the fuller already runs into the handle and you'd be maintaining the distal taper throughout. Bryan has already discussed cold peening or rethreading the shortened tang.

As Bryan stated in his thread, these swords are already quite thin. So I don't see the disruption in Distal Taper being such a big deal. And I was actually planning on shortening the handle slightly, most likely by hot peening.

Well, it only took ~2 years š¬ but I FINALLY got my hands on a Hanwei Tinker GSOW today! I hope within the next couple of weeks to dig out my dremel tool, and get that tip cut down! The sword is a beast of a blade now, and I'm super excited to see how it handles once I chop the tip down! Quick question to anyone who's done this, is a spray bottle of water sufficient to keep the blade cool while cutting? My plan was to spray it down whenever the blade gets too hot to touch.

Iād recommend a soaked towel, and bucket of water to cool the blade. Go in steps. Another towel to wipe off the water before starting to saw again. It's a good idea to cool the blade down frequently and not let it get much hotter than you'll be able to touch with your bare hand.

On the one sword I cut down (a cheap Chinese flavored sword) I used a spray bottle of ice water and a ziplock bag of ice. Not sure if thatās too cold but like I said, cheap blade.
