I just finished this up. It’s in no way perfect, but I’m pleased for my first try at something with a blade over 4 inches. Overall length is 14 inches, and the blade is a bit over 10 inches. Forged from 1084. The grip is spalted tiger maple with boiled linseed oil. Obscenely sharp. Lots of things to do better next time, but I’ll have fun playing with this. I hope the picture quality is ok. I reduced the file size a lot for the server.

It's the steel on the inside that counts.

I love a blade with rough forge-scale on the spine! That looks great! Would look right at home on the belt of a buck-skin clad mountain man!

That looks great. You did several things that I look for, wood scales riveted on with an oil finish as well as that forged finish. The steel sounds like a good choice also. High polished blades with slick factory finishes don't do much for me. I really like what you've done on that one.

I love the look of that. Menacing blade shape. Forged finish. Oiled handle. That's a good looking knife

My first post here in the SBG forums. Here is a current work in progress on a large blade I'm making for myself. It's a process of forging and stock removal beginning with a piece of 3/16 thick 1095 I picked up from Smokey Mountain Knife Works in Sevierville. Tennessee. Man, ain't I got a Hillbilly set up? My anvil, "Beth Steelton" is made from RR track I salvaged.
