First off I didn't make the blade don't have a forge, yet. The blade is from a DSA HEMA Viking sword. Made the grip and guard plate spacers out of oak. Wanted to use 2-3,000 year old Bog Oak but couldn't find a piece quick enough or the right size. Might redo it if I do. Didn't go real smoothly in the beginning, messed up the first pommel but luckily I had enough brass stock left to make another one. Got the fit of the blade in the guard as close as I could. Might still do some more prettying up on the pommel later on. Length 36 1/2 inch. Blade 30 inch. Width 2 1/4 inch P.O.B. 5 inch. Weight 3 Lbs. Needless to say, click on the picture to enlarge. Better yet don't because you'll see all my boo boo's. It was a fun first time sword. _

That's pretty awesome. I think you nailed it. I have toyed with the idea myself but never made the attempt.

Thanks Bryan. It was fun but at times nerve racking especially when I messed up the first pommel. I switched from using power tools to only hand tools on the second one.

Nice work. How does it feel in the hand? How large a piece of bog oak do you need?

How's it feel? Looks killer. I need to find me a Nordic cutting sword someday as well

It's actually very comfortable if you use a handshake grip not so with a hammer grip. The wood grip is not as secure as a leather grip in bare hands, but I wasn't planning on doing any cutting with it. My possible burial sword, if I decide to go. Scott, I was looking for a piece of Bog Oak 2"x2"x4". The only thing I could find in the US was 1.5"x1.5" or a lot larger pieces for outrageous prices. Ebay had them but they where coming from the Ukraine with a up to two month delivery time.

Where did you get the middle ring at. It's a men's ring I picked up on Amazon for $11. I could have told you I made it and boy you would have been impressed.

Nope, like the saying goes, it's easier to remember the truth than it is to remember a lie.
