I'm a big fan of Bernard Cornwell's Uhtred novels and of course I wanted a sword like his Serpent-Breath. I'm speaking of the books, not the #@€&%-monstrosity in the tv series. The nearest thing to buy for me was the Hanwei Saxon sword. It's a reproduction of the "Gilling sword" in the Yorkshire Museum, found in this area. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gilling_swordSo it's a sword probably made by the Angles in Northumbria not by the Saxons south in Wessex. And for me it matches the description of Serpent-Breath in the books. The blade is pattern welded with a core of twisted steel bars and welded on hard steel edges. I sanded/polished out the etching so that the pattern is hard to see, like Serpent-Breath is described. The Hanwei blade is really a sharpened crowbar, very thick, no distal taper and looks too synthetically and "milled". I tried to make some distal taper but could only rework the tip section because I don't have a professional grinding tool. My Worksharp is too small for this job. At least the tip section now looks like a real antique sword with a spatular tip. The handle looks a bit worn now. It still needs a inlayed silver cross (Hild's).
