Hi all, Do you know any good silk sword case/box under $35 available in the US? I am about to buy a Chinese saber from Taobao. The silk wrapper box is supposed to be a gift but now it increases the shipping fee for $32 more. One of my friend says that it’s not need because once you get the saber you will be too lazy to put it back to the box. Well, I have kid, so putting it back to the box might be a good thing to do. I saw this katana box on Amazon but not sure it is a good box for Chinese saber www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00CHKLY3I/ref=ox_sc_act_image_1?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1Any suggestiare welcome Here is the link to the Taobao saber if anyone is interested 【龙泉宝刀纯手工镇宅宝刀牛尾刀硬刀武术单刀太极刀长武术刀未开刃】https://m.tb.cn/h.3FCieC8?sm=1494e1

You sould contact the vendor with any specific questions you have. One thing I noticed is that the vendors in your links might be confusing latches with locks. Also in no case do I see what the construction materials are. I don’t think that any of those boxes are air tight enough to cause rust but that should not be discounted. Be careful. Below is a similar box that housed a Chinese spear head that I ordered from WLE (Wing Lam Enterprises) years ago came in. A beautiful box but underneath the razzle dazzle it is cardboard. The latches secure the closure but any child can open it.

I have received similar looking inexpensive “presentation boxes” from Longquan. They are pretty in photos, but quite cheap and garish in person. They are very flimsy and certainly insufficient to secure a sword from a child. It would probably draw a child’s curiosity, though.
I don’t know if the one you are looking at is of a higher class of craftsmanship or not, but with respect, I doubt it.

The American door knobs for inside doors I’ve seen can be unlocked by inserting a stiff wire in the hole. I don’t think any child with normal intelligence would be stopped. Here our inside doors are locked with a key. And the normal procedure is to unlock with a table when the key, and sooner or later they do, gets lost.

Regardless of type or thickness of wood used it potentially is a better material than cardboard, but that doesn’t put you home free. Whichever way you go wishing you the best of luck.

I agree with maewyn, get a hard shell rifle case. They are easy to get at any sporting good store or online. They are lockable and have padded foam that will hold your sword securely and can be had for under $40. Most rifle cases can hold two swords, and a double rifle case can hold 3 easily.

The hard shell gun case is an excellent idea.

The hard shell gun case is an excellent idea. Hi guys Thanks for the idea I did think about that, but worried that a gun case will cause more attention of the police if I carry it out

Most Japanese swords and some Chinese come with a storage bag. Use the gun w/locks for in the house to keep the kids out and the storage bag for transport outside? If no storage bag comes with your sword they can be bought separately. Here’s one I bought years back and never used. I think it came from True Swords.

I cover my gun cases with music stickers for bands and such. It makes the gun case look more like a guitar or other musical instrument. Nobody gives it a second look. But when they ask me if I play, I simply respond "yes, I play staccato...very staccato"

I had forgotten but a few years back on another forum there was somebody that used a musical instrument case to carry I think his blowpipe and had no trouble with the law.
Just thought of another one. There was a time when gangsters carried their Thompson in a violin case.
