Folder knives anybody...?
I recently got into them and man, that's quite a rabbit hole... I'm usually highly sceptical about (and thus quite resistant to) just "collecting" pretty things that also work well but this is a toughie. Plus it's strangely satisfying and addictive to flick and drop shut a perfect running folder knife, I could do this all day.
I need to be adopted by a rich person please.

Loves me some folder knives. If you want to amass some good quality pieces at outstanding prices then Kershaw is the best game in town. Benchmade and Spyderco are fantastic, though much more expensive for the most part. I've got some reviews of each in my signature if you want to see some. Still have half a dozen or so that I still need to review.
Man I love folding knives.

I'm not a collector but have a few iconic - for me at least - folders. Swiss Army Knife, Laguiole, Zero Tolerance 301, Gerber Gator.

I have quite a few. Some I carry daily, some have been neglected on the corner of my desk. I used to spend more time with them, but that area tends to be buried under things these days...

My all time favorite folder is still a Kizlyar Sterkh, the flat ground variation with walnut handles - big and sturdy without being needlessly bulky, very pretty in a no-nonsense, understated way, and it's really well made, too. sbg-sword-forum.forums.net/thread/30068/kizlyar-quot-nsk-sterkh-folderToo big for casual EDC, though. For that I have a neon yellow Benchmark Mini Griptilian with a thumbhole and sheepsfoot blade, also a really good knife but for somewhat different reasons - small and light, easy to find if you drop it due to the garishly bright color, and decidedly un-tacticool so having it on me doesn't make me look like a psycho.

That hobby will eat you alive That's my feeling... I got me a Spyderco Manix 2 XL (all black DLC coated) some weeks ago to get started and there are already like at least ten more on my "desperately need"-list. It's super fun to flick, buttery smooth already, and it slices like nothing else I ever handled. Hopefully I'll be able to hold myself back and only get one or two iconic knives of every locking mechanism around or something like that but I'm already startin to get excited about (semi-) custom folder knives... Ressenti, Shirogorov, Tighe, gosh. I love the fact that the community is really vivid and there are hundreds if not thousands of really good, really entertaining folder reviews on YT... kinda quickly became a Shabazzian already^^ And in a way I'm pretty glad that I'm still able to get excited about things anyway... with age the "been there done that" dullness of life just keeps growing I feel.

My last couple of folders in are ti framed pre-tactical pre-Sebeza bench made by Randal Gilbreath during the 1980s. I started with just the one, years ago and then found a more polished sibling. The Benchmark Rolox Diamondback found a new home and paid for that one and then I found an even earlier Gilbreath. A trend that launched a thousand ships into the 1990s Where would life be without a belt, boot or pocket clip? If I carry a folder/slipjoint these days it is usually a mundane Swiss Army Soldier/Pioneer. An Al Mar eagle at arms reach nearby along with a manicure gentleman's folder. My bucket of stuff was never as large as some collectors but it seems whenever one blade leaves and two blades enter. We are doomed! There are still a few dandy fixed blades listed for sale on Vince Evans picture trail www.picturetrail.com/sfx/album/view/23568994I have a folder from him from the 1990s. The bolsters were engraved after the fact. Another favorite and grasping at my youth was finding a Puma 941 at a user price. It had been a dream wish back when I was sixteen. A nice rabbit hole to jump into is A.G.Russell's pages. I limited myself to a couple of small pocket knives and had found that Vince Evans lockback at www.cuttingedge.com I should have bought the tail locks of his work also listed there. Way back now but there are still bargains to find on the pages. I'm wanting to find a fair price for a Ka-BAR 1179 and of a certain variant but will probably never find it. Mine from the early years had its spring broken. Never loan out knives.

Not a collector either but I have a couple of working ones. I stick to CRKT for mine. Good prices, great quality.

I love folders too and always carry one. Luckily in Montana they are more common than wristwatches as accessories.
For a laugh:

I love me some folders, but I don't buy enough of them I think that's a pretty comon problem amongst folder afficionados. Luckily there's an easy solution to this, scientifically proven and a sorta well known secret in the knife community: buy more!

Luckily there's an easy solution to this, scientifically proven and a sorta well known secret in the knife community: buy more! Easy? Not if you want to collect Benchmades! I do have quite a collection: Gerber, Ontario, Kershaw, Buck, CRKT--all good options that don't break the bank. I've also picked up a few Ganzo Firebirds which are dirt cheap but high quality. My favorite though are my Spyderco and my Benchmade. Just one of each but oh so smooth.

I need to buy another JJ Martinez. My Manly is nice, but it's not hitting the same spots as the JJ Martinez.
Most I've ever spent on a folder was a little over $225, or was it $250, for a Wild Steer WX. Not really into Benchmade or Spyderco offerings, but a few have gotten my eye once or twice.

Couldn't recommend Spyderco more. I carry the regular Manix II every day.

Folders are nice, though I prefer more traditional knives. My latest purchase was this lambfoot by Michael May with coolibah burl scales. Attachments:
