See that didn't hurt did it ? Yet I was lambasted for posting all the contacts in the first place, then edited the details to soothe another's hurt feelings or sense of propriety. All one need to do is look at posting histories, or remember discussions. There is a turnover in forum member participation and those that have been around the block a few decades know all about the BKS "busy" seasons. I'm not going to openly speculate what is going on in this case but I do hope it is returned. SBG fielded a couple of special limited to be produced by BKS. The waiting time and issues a bit extraordinary but iirc, everybody eventually got their swords. Busy trying to make the business run means customs wait, and wait and wait. Again, all one need do is search a bit back to the past couple of decades. Credit where credit is due, they do produce a great number of weapons in a given year and have a lot of positive exposure. They had even be doing blades for Christian Fletcher (I don't know if so lately). To be honest, I've not paid them much attention since the SBG project saga and quite a few waits seen since then related on FB. Many have waited on their paid goods and one of the BKS slogans is "Art Should Hurt" imakeswords.com/nightmare.htmAs this was a job repaired gratis, a little slack in return might be expected. However the excuse routine is, unfortunately, par for the course from what I have followed. I'm not sure their talents quite excuse them all but many take the pain A shout out to Kerry and Matthew, Laissez les bons temps rouler must wait until March as well Get 'er done guys Glen

I assure you my feelings were not hurt, although I was worried about propriety. I have since realized it was a matter of cognitive dissonance. The repairs were completed on or before October 6th. Holding onto my property for four months because you cannot locate a box is not an excuse. I believe this is a case of neglect, and quite possibly, theft.

It's playing the victim over having the boorishness of a post pointed out. Thanks to the forum's built in features, it won't have to be an issue going forward.
I hope you eventually get your sword back.

I don't own any of their products, but I have handled some at Scarborough Fair Ren-Fest. Nice stuff, but their business practices.... . In the past, I have emailed them with some minor questions on certain products....never received a reply....not once. I think if I ever ordered one of their pieces, I would get it from a source I know I could count on---like KOA. I know some of you have issues with KOA, but at least if they say they have it 'in-stock', you're pretty sure to get it...and...returns have never been an issue...at least for me.
I really hope you get the issue resolved without any more unpleasant feelings or actions. Good luck!

I agree with the overall sentiment here. A few weeks and I'd give the forge the benefit of the doubt. But a few months? Give me a break. How does a sword manufacturer not have sword sized boxes anyhow? Are we to believe they haven't done any other business in the past few months? Because if they have, clearly they have boxes.

Furthermore, FedEx forced me, they actually forced me to upgrade to a different box because they claimed the box I brought was inadequate. I had to pay 30 bucks for a brand new box AND 30 bucks to ship. The forge was sent a primo, top of the line box from FedEx.

Okay, this recent addendum to the box thing had me almost to the point of convulsions with laughter. Like, just how premium of a box is it?
Oh man, there is a tiny shred of comedy in an otherwise awful situation

"We don't have a box" "What about the one it came in?" "Sorry we just don't have one" "You have a box the sword came in one" "Sorry no box still" "I PAYED 30 DOLLARS TO BUY A BOX TO SEND IT IN" Sorry we just don't have a box"
It's like a sketch, it's unreal. How is a company this dishonest in their dealings and be this successful.

You just omitted the part where they were so fascinated by the box they decided to keep it so as to analyze it in a lab and attempt to replicate it. Unfortunately, that attempt turned out worse than weaving a macaroni necklace underwater and so they attempted to destroy the box in rage. Sadly, the box was so powerful that not only did it resist all manner of assault, but the forge combusted. They've no clue how to proceed from here as they live in daily fear of the box, knowing not where it is or when it may return.
Suffice to say, I'm spending a month's wages on boxes at FedEx tomorrow. They gotta be good.
I really need to stop commenting when I'm short on sleep and looking for an outlet to vent about the world's worst tailoring job that ruined a perfectly fine suit.

Your case reminds me of 2 famous smiths who took my and my friends' money and never delivered in years time. Sorry this happened to you. :(

In all fairness, I too would be fascinated by a thirty dollar box! You could get an actual metal case for that price...

Kult of Athena just got a really big shipment from BKS, so they obviously have boxes. Honestly, I think they have forgotten about me and don't particularly care.

Or on a darker not, maybe they repaired it, and mistakenly sold it.
IMO...I know LOTS of metal artists, they make great stuff but are terrible businessman.

If they sold that sword then they have committed a serious crime: theft by conversion. My guess is that something like that happened. Perhaps it just got lost, or misplaced, but at some point after one of your inquiries they realized they couldn't find your sword and hoped ignoring the problem would just make it go away. They need to either provide you with your repaired sword + an apology (and some other recompense like a discount), refund you for the new value of the sword and the shipping/box costs you incurred + an apology, or make you a brand new version of the sword from scratch + an apology. At this point, anything less than one of the above isn't justifiable on their part. They have poorly handled this situation, and they need to suck up the costs and make it right.

Well, I have a bill of sale for the sword. I paid $500, plus $50 bucks for shipping (the box was not $30, it was $20). I don't think anything will compel them to give me $550 if they have lost the sword unless the law intervenes, and I sincerely hope they do, because a representative from the Attorney General's office told me they could theoretically charge them with a crime. If I were them, I would act quickly to avoid any legal entanglements, especially if we are talking misdemeanors.

The really unfortunate part of this story is not that I lost money or that they have behaved badly toward a customer, but that such a beautiful sword is being squandered like this. Honestly, it really is a lovely sword. The blade is about 3-4 inches too short, but I was thrilled with it when I got it.

Yeah...it's just an ugly situation. The law's on your side with this one, so it's not a question of whether things will be squared away, just how and when BKS will resolve the matter. Horrible that you have to go through this nonsense, but at least it will be resolved in your favor.
And hey, even if this particular sword is squandered, it might be fun to use the funds as a base to commission an even better sword down the road. Not much of a consolation, but still a thought

...it might be fun to use the funds as a base to commission an even better sword... ...from an entirely different sword maker.
