I recently purchased a Cold Steel Polish saber from Amazon. I loved the sword but was woefully disappointed in the color of the leather .
I have a 2018 Cold Steel catalog and the scabbard shows a bright red color . The one I received was a deeper darker duller sort of red.
I was expecting a striking contrast between the silver trim and bright red as pictured in my catalog. I would think companied try to get the colors as close as possible to what they are selling . But maybe not.
I was wondering if anyone who purchased this sword can weigh in on the color red they received.

This was when I unboxed it at my office. The light there is typical office light ( pretty blue/cool). The brown table also tones down the red some.

I bought my Polish Saber from Amazon about a week ago. My color matched the picture on the website pretty closely. I never expected a bright or scarlet red.
I know that color tones can vary quite a lot on printed materials and on computer screens.

Either case, the CS Polish Saber IS done in red leather. If you got a black scabbard, they sent you something else. Demand a return, Amazon is VERY liberal in taking returns. ( I have done it too often! )

Leather is an organic material. It's responses to colour dyes can vary considerably. Even using the exact same bottle of dye..no two leather hides will give the exact same results. And Red is especially problematical as it's a colour that naturally fades fairly fast.

Sorry I didn't take a photo of the scabbard. On amazon there is only one listing for the polish saber. I went by the photo in the 2018 Cold Steel catalog. Assuming (incorrectly) it would be the most accurate.
I contacted Cold Steel and they basically said - Leather varies and so would the color
Red may be problematic , I don't know.
What I do know is if you go into , lets say a coach hand bag store (my wife take me there every so often) all the handbags are uniform in color . Reds are all the same ,browns are all the same the blue bags are all the same .
I think it's more of a quality control problem. But what do I know ?

Reds are all the same ,browns are all the same the blue bags are all the same. Not to defend CS - I quite dislike the company, personally - but that's mostly because the leather used in a lot of modern furniture and clothing is treated to hell and back specifically to make it look uniform, because the general public tends to see that as a sign of quality, to the extent that sometimes it's essentially half synthetic. When this isn't done that's usually a main selling point of the article, marketed as genuine, traditional, individual, handcrafted etc.

Leather is subject to variations in colour but not nearly as much as variations in colour from computer to computer and especially due to different cameras. Do not expect to receive something with the same colour as in a photo.

Leather is subject to variations in colour but not nearly as much as variations in colour from computer to computer and especially due to different cameras. Do not expect to receive something with the same colour as in a photo. Plus lighting! Lighting is a huge factor that affects literally everything about a photo to an extreme degree, and is very hard to objectively communicate or reproduce. Plus camera settings, import method, post-production corrections, image format, compression, and everything else. All in all, photographs just aren't remotely as good as people think they are at accurately and objectively reproducing visual reality. Cameras and the pictures they produce fundamentally do not work the same way our eyes do. And this is especially true with Cold Steel's particular style of catalog... um... actually, are they even photos? I mean, they're either straight up digital drawings or photos retouched to the point that I honestly can't tell the difference, and I've heard claims suggesting both.

Gentlemen:
We are talking about american business practices here, not swords.
If you did, IN FACT, purchase a Cold Steel Polish Saber on Amazon and were shipped a black leather product. You are entitled to receive what you were commercially promised by the seller, a RED leather, appointed saber.
I've bought 4 of the damn things and they are all RED.
Send Amazon a note provided on the sales notice, that you didn't get what you ordered. You will get a return notification with instructions to draw a return mail usps shipping label. Box it and mail it.
Cold Steel will not talk to you. (As mentioned by others, THEY ARE TOADS WHEN IT COMES TO BUSINESS).
MIDWAY Sporting goods in Chicago sells Cold Steel swords. Excellent service, lots of sales. Worth a look. I've never had to return anything to them.

Here are two photos shot back to back and I assure you that the table clothe didn't change colours. It's due to other things lighting and the editor. And this is not an extreme case.

I can vouch for MidWay. Very good company.
Amazon is terrible about swords and weapons, plenty of people get things that are not what they ordered, I believe even a recent forumer got a hammer that is a knockoff of a Windlass, using windlass catalog photos.

There's really no reason to keep the thing if it doesn't meet expectations. If you're like me, you'll just get more annoyed with it the more time goes on and kick yourself after the return window expires. Don't bother contacting Cold Steel, just start a return with Amazon, send it back. Amazon is very good about returns, especially when you buy from them. Speaking from experience: I attempted to buy a second Hanwei Bushido during a black friday sales event on Amazon but the sword was severely defective and Amazon took it back with no interrogation or debate. This way you can try your luck with another and nab the bright shade of red that's advertised everywhere. The color contrast on the sword is a huge part of its appeal and I'd be bummed if it wasn't vibrant/evident on mine.

I recently purchased a Cold Steel 1796 light cavalry saber from Midway USA. I liked it so much I had to have another sword. Amazon had the Polish Saber for around $192.00 at that time so I ordered one.
I am aware of effect of lighting on photographs. Photography was a hobby at one time. I became disenchanted when digital cameras came into being.
Maybe my expectations were to high . I was just expecting a bright red scabbard and grip.

It should be a fairly bright red, too!
If you feel it isn't as advertised, I agree you should return it. Besides CS producing the occasional lemon, like any manufacturer, it's also possible you were sold a knock-off. Or maybe the thing merely isn't as expected - which is also a perfectly valid reason not to spend your money on it! Fortunately, as said, Amazon is pretty good about these things.
