I’m curious to know if anyone has experience with any of the more budget friendly migration era and Viking sword. I’m looking mainly at kilt of Athena and mostly at fafnir forge, but thought I’d get some opinions and stories from people that may have bought these or similar budget blades. Does anyone know more about deepeekas Viking swords in the same price range as fafnir? Is fafnir a good starter Viking sword? What are some other Viking swords in a budget range to consider? Here’s a link to the KoA page for fafnir if anyone can give a first glance opinion: www.kultofathena.com/fafnirforge.asp

some of the windlass budget viking swords are good, not as many budget migration era swords, some are super unwieldy and heavy. I like the windlass sticklestad

I like the windlass sticklestad Personally I just don’t like the ascetic of most of the Viking swords from windlass. I do like the looks of the Maldon but I have serious problems with the battle cry line, and the lief Erickson sword would be more my thing if it also didn’t have some pretty off putting flaws.

I guess the suontaka is pretty good balance in the windlass line, but I still don’t have a budget set. I’m waiting till tax return and getting a few other things sorted out

Ok. Thanks, it's one I've been considering. So I just wanted to learn more about it.

So my must haves for a budget sword (either style as still deciding but will probably go Viking sword) are as followed 1. Peened construction (if I’m buying budget I just don’t want to trust anything less especially if I can’t handle at a store first) 2. A good scabbard, I know a stretch for a budget blade but anything that actually helps protect the sword is good enough. 2.5. Functional sword even if it’s a “beater” I prefer to use my swords for cutting and to collect functional pieces is more my thing. 3. I want to keep my budget under 500$ usd for my total order (getting a gambeson for hema practice but the one I’ve always wanted is on sale) So I do like the hanwei and the deepeeka hersir I’m not quite sure about them. Hanwei I hear a lot of great things about in person and in review videos but some iffy stuff on heat treating. Now deepeeka I’ve not hear anything other than “spin the wheel of quality” and I’m someone who can’t take much risk in buying a sword because I don’t have the option to often as other things come first. So I may just take my gamble with fafnir as I personally only see like 5 total reviews of them and I figured since they meet my requirements I’m now between them and deepeeka as it seems they are my best bets.

As much as I’d love to own an Albion I still would prefer something with a scabbard included, I know i might sound picky but I don’t purchase lightly I have to take into consideration my current and future needs or storing as well. The 500$ is a max budget that if I where to use I’d probably go for something like the five love from dark sword armory.

For 60 more bucks or even less idk I didn't check u could get a va with high quality scabbard and belt I’m actually looking through their website and seeing somethings I’m willing to go over budget for. Problem is the one I like is 100$ more just for a peen instead of the hex nut but I’m still looking at what they got Incase I find that special something

Does anyone know if the valiant armory hedemark is just as good with the hex nut? I’d prefer not to but it seems like since the company is well reputable with many many great reviews it might be worth putting my own picky taste behind for it.
