H&K G3 full auto. I was used to the FAL and was using the rear receiver as a cheek pad. I thought my face would be covered with tell-tale bruises, but I was unscathed. Of course, I was ignoring the pain to enjoy the excess of it all.

I'd vote for a muzzleloading 4-bore elephant gun, like Selous was posed with below. Bloody awful recoil, leaves you in a stinking smogbank, and you were supposed to use it while about 50 feet from a pissed-off elephant (on horseback, no less). Cleaning one sucks semprini through a dirty sock as well.

Behold the hi-point 9MM. Shot one this evening in and was disgusted, It wasn't even fun to shoot in terms of things that go bang. It hurts just looking at that abomination....

I strongly suspect that the main reason those BFGs might be unfun is just because people are totally unprepared the first time they fire one. Once you actually know what's coming and brace yourself against it properly, I'd expect them to be quite fun to shoot indeed (as long as your shoulder can handle the pounding).
On the other hand, here's Ian of Forgotten Weapons again, from some years back, presenting another strong candidate: the Cobray Terminator.

The design reasoning behind this technoabortion continues to escape me. The thing has no redeeming value, social or antisocial.

My own personal experience was a Ruger Number 1 in .458 Win Mag. Shot that at 15, and it was the first time I put a gun down and stopped shooting for the day.
In guns I own, I have a Mosin cavalry carbine. I call it the Macho Eliminator. Someone thinks that they are a stud, I let them shoot that! Works every time.

Hi Points really aren't that bad. I don't own one but I won't knock anyone for.
Yes the Kel-tecs, SCCY, some Ruger models, and the new Mossberg 9mm are better for not that much more but still at some level a gun is a gun.
Gun people can really be some of the snobbiest people there are. Virtually all of them hate the Ruger P-series and honestly there's nothing wrong with those. Maybe too heavy for carry but great for a nightstand or glovebox.
The only guns currently in production truly worthy of hate are Jimenez Arms 🤮 and their cousin Cobra 🤮🤮🤮. Those are the only guns I've personally seen malfunction right out of the box.
The only other gun advice I have is keep em stock. Most gun mods look dumb and actually hurt performance. They're the equivalent of bolt on spoilers and pep boys parts.

I'd argue this gun seems pretty "unfun" to me! At 4:32 the dude handled it pretty well. I am familiar with a .577/450 Martini–Henry but the 577 Tyrannosaur has its recoil beat by a good margin. I’d say the most unpleasant rifle I’ve fired was a Mk 5 Enfield. It carried nicely but not all that pleasant to fire although I did so many times.

I didn’t think much of it. It was reliable and not unpleasant to fire. The report was considerable louder than in the video. I thought it to be rugged, portable, and capable of being carried in a small container. Other than that I didn’t think much of it. In fact I had completely forgotten about it.

As someone who's only ever fired a gun recreationally a couple of times, can anyone tell me why a particular gun is 'fun' or 'not fun' to shoot? I enjoyed shooting a Glock 20 that I used to own more than a Lorcin L380 that I used to own. The Lorcin was hard to cycle, stovepiped frequently, heavy trigger pull and almost impossible to activate or deactivate the safety. On top of those things it just did not have good power. My Glock 20 had more power. No jams, no negligent discharges, no accidental discharges and no failures to feed. When I used it to get my carry permit in Michigan it was winter and very cold with a lot of snow. I had on gloves and that presented a problem with finger purchase on the trigger when I was ready to shoot. The gloves hindered me from being able to engage the safety trigger once in a while. To me that makes Glocks not good for winter carry if you are going to wear gloves. I loved shooting my Ruger P90 but not my foreign made 1911 that had a slide jam almost every shot. I liked my Ruger Vaquero in .44 mag but with its rounded wooden grips, I needed gloves to shoot it because it kept rotating in my hand and gouging my thumb knuckle. In short, fun guns to shoot are strictly the opinion of the shooter. As for self defence I hold to the opinion.of using the largest legal calibre that you can comfortably handle and get trained and proficient with the gun of that calibre that you choose.

I bought a Hi Point carbine rifle shortly after they came out. She was not the prettiest piece at the range but she was unique enough to get me a chance to shoot a Mauser 98K. I had no issues even with hollow points. She spat out whatever I fed her. The targets did not like her though.

I admit to snobbery about hi-points, but I have to admit that if you get one that runs, it will run forever. Also, their customer service on the lemons is good, too.
At their price, kind of hard to argue against the carbines. There are even bullpup conversions for those now, which makes them compact without needing a tax stamp.
But, they are what they are: straight blowback operating system pistols and carbines. Therefore unnecessarily strong recoil impulse vs. Browning ramping barrel/gas retarded blowback/direct impulse gas operated/piston driven alternatives.

Sometimes it is not the gun. Years ago I loaded up a god load of 357 125 hp's to the point that the primers were just starting to crater. Hot, yes!!! Shot them through my Ruger security sixes. They were stout, but not totally unpleasant in a masochistic sort of way. I ran them once in a blue moon through my 3" j frame. NOT FUN, and I would not recommend them as a steady diet for that particular weapon.
Me and a buddy were scaring some targets one day. He brought his son in law along and we let him run through a large pile of guns. He had just finished shooting a 44 mag with a barrel long enough to need a whealie bar to keep the end out of the dirt. Only case of too much gun I have ever seen, but with all the weight it shot like a 38 spl.
SOOOO I asked the boy if he wanted to shoot something brutal...Fool said yes. So I handed him the "J"... I have never seen a human body contort the way his did, to avoid goose egging his head. He turned and looked at me with his mouth hanging open and handed it back...I said to him: "Told you it was brutal". No reply just a shocked look. Later He did admit to thinking that he had just shot this behemoth, and what could that puny pea shooter possibly do. I snickered and rapid fired the last 4 rounds.

You know, before i ever opened the thread, i knew i'd be seeing hi-points. I bought one just because it was so damn cheap, i wanted to know how it handled. it feels so gross to hold i've never fired it.

Shame on whomever sold you the firearm without letting you handle it sufficiently first. Trying things on is just as important with Firearms as it is with clothes.
