Came across this story about a Viking sword find but wondering if it's just Fake News. The sword looks to be in unbelievable good shape for being exposed to the weather just laying on the rocks for a thousand years. If it was by World News Daily Report I would know it was fake because that's all they do, make up fake stories about finds like this. secretsoftheice.com/news/2017/09/05/viking-sword/

The “story” is real. It was reported by numerous news services. Thay say that archeologists dated it to around 900 AD. The theory is that it was lost in a blizzard and became trapped in permafrost. It’s not impossible if it only recently melted out. All this being said, it could still be a hoax, but the story is real enough even if it isn’t true.

That was really cool - and looks authentic to me.
However, as a former newspaper managing editor (the person responsible for the newsroom, reporters, story accuracy, etc.) it makes me cry inside when news consumers must preface every article they reference with, "It may be fake news..." This mistrust heralds the fall of journalism. Unfortunately, today's lack of trust is completely warranted. ANY reporter of mine who let his/her personal agenda influence their reporting, or reporters who supported instead of reported, or simply manufactured a story, was fired with extreme prejudice. Once it is known that the managing editor is a hard-ass, fake news is not an issue. The reason you see so much of it today is simply because management tolerates - or even encourages - agenda driven propaganda.
I apologize for going off topic.

No apology necessary. There was a time when you could believe what you saw in the news no more. World News Daily Report is one that totally makes up fake news reports. First ran into them when they reported a Viking ship discovered in the Mississippi River. I posted the story on my Viking Age forum only to relies it was fake trying to find out more about it. I'm a fanatic about finding Viking activity in the US. They have done a lot more fake stories in fact I think that's all they do. So if they report that the Holy Grail was discovered in Time Square don't waste your time reading it unless you like reading fiction.
