Hello!
So I have a small sword collection which includes hanwei practical katana, hanwei practical ninjato, hanwei practical wakizashi and hanwei bastard sword (non tinker). And now I'd like to get new sword but I'm not sure if I should get new katana or european longsword. Yes I know this is fully personal preference thing but I just want to hear your opinions. I kinda prefer katanas but really like european swords as well. Oh and I use my swords mostly for backyard cutting.

Try a longsword! (... and then another katana) Yup. The answer is always BOTH. Which to buy first is the question.

Why not combine the two? Check out Ronin Katanas Two Handed Saber. It's got a katanaish blade but a European style cross guard and pommel.

Got another one of these (my third one, after having sold my previous two):
Laughable great quality for the price, nothing to go wrong with. To get a katana of comparable quality will cost a lot more.

You seem to have a fair bit of katanaish blades. I would get a new longsword, but try getting one that looks different from the one you already have, that way you get some variaty.

Hmm yes I suppose that was a stupid question. There really is not that much difference with different katanas. Btw does anyone have any knowledge if the cold steel german long sword is any good?

It has gotten mostly good reviews. Mind, it's practically identical to the Dynasty Forge "Duellist", just with a sidering sort of half-heartedly slapped on as an afterthought; they're probably made by the the same manufacturer.

Im gonna throw in a vote for the ronin katana 2 handed sabre. Its a nice blend of katana and longsword - seems perfect for you.

Why not a sabre? I would say longsword. It's hypocritical of me to say, but in my la experience the fun of sword collection is going through a bunch of different styles of swords and finding which I like best. Turns out it's sabres balanced between a cutting heavy and thrusting light, with comprehensive hand protection and a long grip. I had somewhat of a similar start as yours, I had a katana, then I did longsword in hema (but I started collecting antique sabres around this time), then taught myself some sabre repertoire, And now it's my preferred sword art next to rapier which I learn at my nearest club.

Yeah, sabers are fun too! So, first a longsword, then another katana, a saber, a rapier, a jian and a cutlass! (... and you'll end up like us other freaks: another storage room)

With the Ronin Katana piece, don't let the name "saber" stop you. A katana is every bit as much a two handed saber as this piece. Technically, a saber just means any curved single edged blade, although most people immediately think of the Napoleonic cavalry swords.

Exactly my words before I got my first longsword... Your collection and thoughts in the OP made me assume you'd be interested in different types of swords. That's why I suggested to get a longsword. A jian is a Chinese longsword, I'm waiting for one in the moment.

Mostly I'm interested in the German Longsword and Bosworth Longsword. I guess I just like the XVa type blade but I'm just not sure if it can cut well.

Gotta say, I also second a saber. A military saber, a swiss saber, etc. Any kind of saber.
But if not that, then a longsword. A nice pointy one.

I had collected several katanas earlier in the year and realized it was time to buy something different. I bought the Ronin Crusader and really love it. I would say go for a longsword. Katanas will always be here and there are plenty to choose from!!
