I never even really considered lamnia cause I wasn't sure if it was trustworthy mostly because almost all swords they sell are not in stock. And what comes to Teräasekeskus I have nothing but negative things to say about them since I have had the misfortune of ordering from them twice. Well at least the second time I received 2 out of 3 items I ordered.Oh and why sandpaper over sharpening stone?

Good sandpaper is easier to find than good stones, especially in several grits, and much cheaper to experiment with. Plus, if you end up not liking it you're not stuck with it for the next few generations. As to the stores, I've never had anything but the best of experiences with Lamnia - they're almost as good as Varusteleka - but Teräasekeskus... well, yeah... they've always delivered everything I've ordered from them, but for various reasons they just give me a somewhat unreliable vibe. Nothing I could actually accuse them of, just this general feeling that they don't really care about having my business, you know?

And since we have been talking mostly about bastard swords so how about longswords?

If it is, 150€ seems very attractive Of the two I had, I put one through its paces (hanging logs of fir wood, planks of plywood etc.) – no problems at all, just a slight rattling of the guard which was easily remidied. The other one looked just as good from the outside.

I personally didn't like my tinker longsword. Felt too light, too toy like. I had a windlass longsword, the Roven and really quite liked it. Heh! You sure have never handled an ATRIM!!!

I see. But do I still need a file? For putting an edge on a previously blunt/unsharpened blade, or turning an angular secondary bevel (like what an accusharp would produce) to a nice appleseed curve, yes - or at least you'll want one! Stones or papers are good for finishing or touching up an existing edge, but for tasks where you need to remove a lot of material (at least relatively speaking) a good file will save you a lot of time, work and cursing. You could also use power tools, like bench-mounted belt grinders, but they're relatively expensive and far easier to make big mistakes with. Bastards and longswords are effectively the same thing, as are hand-and-a-half swords. "Longsword" is the only one of these terms with any real historical basis, meaning literally a sword of larger than average length for use in two hands.

They state this is 5160 water quenched and farther down state the blade is stainless, if I read correctly.

We Germans see three different types of swords here: A hand and a half = a singlehander blade with a grip a little bit longer than a real single handed sword, just a hand and a half long, but you also have to grip the pommel. Bastard sword = singlehander blade with a longer two handed grip. Can still be used one handed but allows twohander techniques. Longsword = two handed grip with a blade too long and heavy to handle it with only one hand.

I just purchased the Ronin Crusader #13 Two Handed sword this past week. I really like it and the price was reasonable too.
It feels good when I hold it. It's a no frills sword but does come with a belt/harness. I strapped it on and it is fairly easy to wear. Looking for a good weather day to get outside and cut with it. If you are looking for a good longsword at a good price, this would fit the bill.

I've had good luck with Ronin - but since he's in Europe, I'm not sure how much luck he'd have finding them (other than the copycats).
