Just don't hit the Orks with the pommel or guard. If they laugh at your pommel and guard and say " we're going to stick you " just say " not if I stick you first ". Too bad the pommel is not of the screw-off type - ah, i would finish them Orks RIGHTLY!

All my personal swords I designed for Longship Armoury to make can be considered "fantasy" since there were no exact historical counterpart or period example. Are they good at functionality? Definitely. Probably better than some "historical designs" even. ;) So it depends on how you define "fantasy".

I only have one fantasy sword - Legacy Arms Excalibur. Solidly built, sharp, handles excellently, and although I have not cut with it yet as it's winter here with lots of snow (not sure if I will, as it's such an awesome looking sword on the wall) I'm sure it will be able to handle hard cuts easily (also confirmed by Paul Southern in his review).

Yeah but Arnold will never admit to that. A lot has to do with how elaborate the fantasy sword is and how big. For example a Sting sword from Lord of the Ring could be very easily made into a fully practical functional sword if using the right metal and proper techniques in construction. The problem with movie swords is they're going for the shock or WOW factor rather than practical. After all what are three of the most recognized and copied movie swords in the world, the two Conan swords and LOTR Anduril. Did some cutting recently with my Museum Collection Sting (made from high carbon steel and tempered) - it did just fine! Theyre also said to have good full tangs. But guard and pommel are no steel, so cutting yes, slaying Orks no... pity. The actual functional Conan sword was about 8lbs. Albion makes the real thing under the same specifications though it's expensive. They did have a blunt for the fight scenes. It's a myth that the sword was 100lbs or too big to wield. Windlass makes a crappy version and so does muerto of Toledo. The only other actually functional and usable is from a Chinese maker. It's about 6.5lbs. but it's balance is better and it's at a price that you wouldn't feel bad using it. I wouldn't want to use the Albion at that price.

I liked the movie TROY and years ago looked for the sword that Brad Pitt used. All that was available was the wallhanger from the noble collection. Looking around the web I bumped into a very close copy. from traditionalarcherybows.com/handmade_achilles_sword_influenced_from_movie_troy_p43.htmlIt was also a much better price also and is a real sword although it is or should be considered a fantasy sword. So far the only thing I have had the chance to cut are plastic jugs and it goes through them no problem (except for my horrible form at times ) I did notice that they changed the blade profile a while back as I have had this one for many years. It is tang through, razor sharp and handles very well for what I think is a reasonable price. So as fantasy swords go I like this one. haandle picture.bmp (759.42 KB)

Yep. Own (and love) two of Brenno's master swords. I also own the Saber and Dirk of Duath'gual... Brenno's work is fabulous. 😎

I'm not sure this is a fantasy sword as it was forged by Michael Rader. www.raderart.com/ who also did the scabbard. The lost wax bronze castings were done by a really talented guy David Blue. I don't know if there was ever a historical sword that matched it but it is one solid quality blade and I am glad to have it. So if it is called a fantasy sword it is definatly good if not great. I'm not sure this is a fantasy sword as it was forged by Michael Rader. I'd call it a fantasy sword. Chinese-style, and the blade profile is historical, but the grip, pommel, and guard are pretty fantasy. The little cut-out on the blade makes it look like a polearm head remounted as a sword.

I wasn't sure if I had pictures of the wax carvings of the dragon head pommel and the dragon scale guard. The guard actually is carved and casted like a real scale. one side is smooth and one side is carved rougher like a real scale. Also the handle and the scabbard are carved out of the same piece of flamed maple.
