What do you guys think? I can't find very much reference for a Danish M1899, aside from a few dealers. Googling it turns up lots of British 1899 but no Danish. imgur.com/s21SxYIimgur.com/xacXwwu

That's the Italian M1860. The design came from the Danish M1843. Danes were the first with those very modern (still) looking hilts. 1:: Italian M1860. 2:: Danish M1843. Spot the differences.

Thanks. I had thought so, but didn't want to operate on my own limited knowledge.

There is another seller in the UK who has this identified as a "Danish 1899" Something is odd. It's one thing to have a single dealer (mis)identify an Italian M1860. The fact that several dealers appear to have done the same thing makes me think. Especially since the Italian M1860 is a fairly well-known sword pattern... www.chrisjohnsons.co.uk/shop.php

That is odd. I wonder if there's a dealer the sellers are going to that has his stuff wrong? Or maybe there somehow is a super obscure pattern that's floating around.

OldSwords has two entries for "Danish model 1843 - 1899". One of them is similar to the one Ulahn posted The second one is much closer to the Italian M1860 in outline, but has a distinct backstrap which runs the length of the grip. In either case, would be hard-pressed to mistake for an Italian.

Huh. Yeah, if you ever saw one of the either and payed any attention you'd be hard pressed to think they're the same thing imo. They're both Brits though, so at least we can laugh.
