Just picked up my FN 509LE from the gun store last week, and put the remaining 250 rounds of my Winchester 124gr NATO ammo through it to see what she could do. I must say that I’m getting fed up with YouTube gun reviews because I’m finding in my personal experience and training that these online “gun guru’s” are wrong more often than they’re right. All I have heard is negativity towards this solid, reliable, extremely well designed FN handgun. The MOST negative fanfare about this handgun has been about the trigger, and since I got it and shot it last week, I can’t find any of the online complaints to be valid in the least! The trigger breaks at 5.5lbs (Lyman Gauged) and there isn’t the slightest “grittiness” in any of the 250+ trigger pulls that I’ve experienced since picking this up. That seems to be the biggest complaint about this handgun, but if anything, after the range trip last week the trigger feels even smoother! I received 3-17rnd mags, 3 different backstraps, and an interesting zip up range case, which I find refreshing after all the big, clunky polymer cases I have stacked closet ceiling high. The slide is reminiscent of the new M&P 2.0’s Melonite finish, with deeply cut front and rear serrations. The cold hammer forged barrel is incredibly well made, complete with recessed crown and polished fees ramp. Amazingly well made polymer frame has fantastic stippling and “thumb zones” as I like to call them, for comfortable and easy to grip surface. There’s also a full 1913 accessory rail and the steel tritium filled night sights form a “shelf” for a one handed slide manipulation if need be. What a smooth shooter this is! If you have a chance to get your hands on one I HIGHLY recommend it. After another 300-400 rounds I can post further observations if anyone is interested. EDIT: I forgot to mention the fully ambidextrous controls on the frame, that function perfectly! I also also tried to post pictures with this post, but the regular way that I’ve always posted pictures isn’t working. It keeps saying “File To Big” or something to that affect. anyone know a different way to upload pictures without Photobucket??

Howdy O Shiny SkyKnight
Try imgr I host my pics there. So far I haven't had an issue using the photo link.
Once you've copied your link into the photolink insert box, add an 'l' (lowercase L) to the filename before the .jpg (ie, img_123asxl.jpg) and imgr will render your image in lower resolution. An 'm' will render it in medium resolution. Wish I'd known that trick when I was doing the photos for the p.a. contest.
I can show you how to make an image a clickable link--I'll dig up the bbcode I used in the hanwei silver shinto anniversary segment of my collection thread for you.

Judging from many things that I've read, there are a lot of people who think gun manufacturers don't know what they're doing, same for ammo manufacturers, too. Any given firearm needs a host of modifications and accessories before it's ready for use, none more so, apparently, than Colt automatics. The same thinking believes that no army is equipped with decent weapons and with few exceptions, never have.
In my own experiences, the more guns you handle and shoot, the more they start becoming the same. There have been few earthshaking developments in living memory with improvements being incremental. In fact, some of what we think of as something new have been around for a hundred years, such as the safety being incorporated into the face of the trigger like Glocks have. Plastic frames seem new but they're been around for at least 60 years for some uses. Personally, I think the new finishes now available are the most worthwhile, yet least appreciated features of new guns, especially on handguns. Glock of course incorporated all of these things--35 years ago.

I love mine, also my fns9. I’m thinking of an FNS9 next. I can pick up an LE model for $425 which comes new with 3 mags and night sights. I’m also looking hard at the FN45, but not the tactical model.

My Walther P99 has a variation on the DA/SA trigger, although it is striker-fired. My other two Walthers, a PPQ-45 and a PPQ-22, do have the little lever in the face of the trigger. They work fine. But I also have two blue steel single action autos, one a Colt in .38 Super.
What I really lack is something in 9.3x62 but I would probably settle for yet another .45-70.

FN rocks. Even well known Glocktard Patrick B from Firearm Rack and formerly of TFBTV has abandoned Glock for the 509.
I want the 45 tactical though :)
And I think what most people fail to grasp is that these modern guns are almost always of similar quality. The one who couldn't keep up have died already. Sometimes you have qc issues, sometimes you have supplier fails, but every gun manufacturer has that. Heck, the Archon that's been all the rage lately has had absolute lemons out there with bad strikers, and gems like the one that went through the gauntlet test with ease.
FN is no different and is no less quality than Glock or S&W.

As much as I love the trigger on my PPQ M2 I have to say that the trigger on the P99 is by far the more interesting of Walther’s designs! I almost went for the PPQ in .45, but I like the capacity.(15+1) of the FNX-45. The 9.3 Mauser round is a giant arse bullet for sure, but the Marlin 1895 is equally awesome in my opinion. Great choice! There’s also a Derringer that’s chambered in 45-70 if you want to go that route 😁

Yeah the FNX-45 is definitely on my list, but if I had a suppressor for it, the Tactical would be already be in the collection! LOL Believe me I totally understand what you’re saying. Actually I have the option to grab the P365 you and I have been drooling over for many long months now, and according to my sources (I just happen to live a short drive from Sig’s home base) all the most current releases of the 365 have been outfitted with stronger firing pins and new trigger springs, so it may have taken a year but they appear to have the only two issues taken care of. I’d still put 500 rounds through it before I even considered carrying it, but I can grab one for $489 and it’s just so tempting!! Funny you mention the Type B cause I’ve been wanting that bad boy since it was the Stryke B! Ya know before the name/company changes.

A female friend & gun owner I know has been singing the FNS9c’s praises to me for like 2 years! She LOVES that gun. I’ve heard others say nothing but good stuff about it as well. The P320 is a great gun!! I got the recall done on my P320 Carry, and that gun is such a sweet shooter.

My comment about both the 9.3x62 and the .45-70 was really a joke, but I've had a few .45-70s, the nicest of which was a Ruger No. 1. The first new rifle I ever bought was also a .45-70, purchased when I was still in college, an H&R Trapdoor carbine. That one kicked. I've also had several .303 Lee-Enfields, including one made, I think, in 1958 or 1959. Should have kept it.

Whoops, I suppose I take my big bore rifles too seriously, if that’s really a thing, but the good news is that there have been a couple of “new” shipments of .303’s coming across the pond. According to the local gun store owner that is! Wow a Ruger #1 huh, that’s a good rifle I’d like to get my hands on someday.

Funny you mention the Type B cause I’ve been wanting that bad boy since it was the Stryke B! Ya know before the name/company changes. Been insanely busy with the new firm. The past few weeks have been terrible, 3-4 hrs of sleep daily and regular migraines. Anyway our major submission will be done by October 22 so at least I can breathe after that. Almost no time for guns, and zero for swords. I have been selling most of my guns though (I have a 5-gun limit on my license) and will revamp the entire "arsenal." Probably gonna keep my Baby Rock 380 as my daily deep concealment gun (I've been wearing suits more often so I really need something light and easily hidden), a commander 1911 in 9mm for regular concealed carry (when I don't need to wear suits) in an alloy frame (likely a Kimber or Ruger), a government length 1911 in 45 ACP that I plan to use as a car gun and for single stack competition, and a double stack railed 1911 in 10mm for home defense. Last gun in the lineup will definitely be a revolver, just can't decide between getting the K6s, SP101, GP100, or the S&W 686. Foregoing the shotgun plans, since the new laws here prohibit us from bringing them to the range without painstakingly procuring a permit from the police to do so. I need to train with my guns, and need consistency in all of them more than anything.

If it’s any consolation I’m also going through the 3-4hrs of sleep per night myself, and after about a month I’m reeeeally starting to feel.....frazzled, for lack of a better term. As for the migraines that feel like a railroad spike has been driven through your temples, yeah I feel your (literal) pain with that as well! I hope you have a vacation planned soon so that you can at least recharge your batteries a bit?! I know with the new firm things may not simmer down for a while, but going to the range, which I’m literally about to do after I post this comment, has become what I like to call “Cognitive Ballistic Therapy.” It’s really very cathartic, as I know you already know 😉 While it kinda sucks that you have a 5 gun limit, it really does help prevent you from spending 85% of your money on firearms, you know to put a positive spin on things. Are the Sig P938’s super expensive there? The price on the Kimber single stack 9’s has been slowly decreasing, and I’ve heard pretty good things about them. Not to sound like a broken record, but you should check out the Ruger LCR in .327mag. You can also shoot .32acp out of it too, which being a Paul Harrell fan you know he also occasionally carries it too! Okay off to assassinate all the 2-liter milk jugs I’ve been saving with my S&W 629 and the Rock Island 10mm blaster! 😈How’s your Mother doing by the way? Better I hope??
I may have already asked you this before, so if I have then sorry! But what about the Mossberg Shockwave? It’s classified as a “firearm” and not a shotgun. Is that an option for you? I think Chiappa made their own version, but for $100 less.

Incredibly (being the UK) I was lusting after a Ruger #1 45-70 that's for sale on my outdoors forum. Not that I can have it (no ticket) and not that it's much use to you, it being over here, but it's worth a look just for the beautiful pictures:
