It's an awesome find for sure. I'm going to throw out the obligatory "it's not from the Viking era" remark so we can keep talking about how awesome these finds are. I seem to recall a sword being discovered in Iceland lying on a rock. It must have been a year or two ago.

Yeah I should have put something like 1,500 year old Scandinavian sword, but I was having a hard time getting the link to post on my phone and got lazy.

Now that's a old sword. It's a wonder that it hasn't broken apart. I wish I could find something like that.

If the sword is in a fairly inaerobic environment, it stands a good chance of being preserved. Rust and oxidation are organisms that have trouble thriving in certain situations environments, which is one of the reasons we find swords in lakes and bogs. Bronze keeps well for a long time too.

I seem to recall a sword being discovered in Iceland lying on a rock. It must have been a year or two ago. That was in Norway, where I'm from. Apparently it was lying in open terrain in plain sight up in the mountains. Those areas are fairly remote out of any road or path, but we Norwegians love walking around in nature so I'm certain it is not the first or last find of its kind, tho a full sword is among the super rare discoveries for sure. Might have found one in Iceland as well, people ran around with swords there too!

These finds really stoke the imagination. How did the sword end up there? Was it an offering? Did some fight take place? Was a thief hiding ill gotten goods? It would be cool to see Albion or someone do a reproduction.

She'd make a perfectly good queen.

It looks like Hollywood has decided to cash in on this by making a modern "sword in the stone" movie. But they have, of course, made it far more cringe-worthy.
Why can't they just stick with the story of a kid finding the old sword and finding they have some kind of magic control over the country's policies as a result? For example, the next day Parliament orders that she gets to have a pony, without knowing why they did. Or the Queen bows to her uncontrollably during a royal visit.

The sword in that trailer looks so terrible. It's a movie for kids. I'll just keep reminding myself of that. I'd much rather have that Swedish girl as my ruler. She is adorable.

Looks like an entirely cynical mash-up of Trollhunters (there's a damn good "kids'" show, BTW) and YA Arthuriana.
I mean, I have seen worse things, but...

I concur, absolutely adorable. I hope she raises the funds she needs to get her replica.

That's so cool. A great read and better pictures of the sword. It looks like a single edge sword like the blade on the Albion Berserkr.

It kinda looks like that in the photo, but most likely that's because the blade is bent and encrusted with dirt and the remains of the scabbard. This sword is a fair bit older than the ones the Berserkr was modeled on.

I conjure the power of necromancy! In all seriousness I have stuff to add and didn't feel it was worth a whole new thread. Comparing the pictures with the Behmer typology, it clearly fits in the top right category, even with the corrosion.
