couldn't they have gotten someone else? like maybe a REAL Scot? kirk as the Bruce? NEVer. still gonna go see it, tho anyway, Alba gu bràth We have a steady stream of Brits and Aussies cast in American roles. It only seems fair for the reverse to be true as well.

I’m hoping this will be as good as the 2015 Macbeth movie with Michael Fassbender. That was a real tour de force.

He was the descendant of Norman knights. "Bruce" is in France somewhere, whereas technically "Kirk" is a Scottish word by way of the Vikings ;-) Plus, a modern Scottish accent is anachronistic to the 14th. They were speaking a version of middle English called old Scots and writing in Latin. And if you want to go back further the kings of Scotland arrived as invaders from Ireland who then aligned with invaders from Normandy. It's hard to find "real" Scottish people in any of this.

lol RIP. Pine is now just as legit as any modern Scot.

Early reviews are negative because the film follows history too closely and is "boring" as a result. The director is now cutting parts out for a re-release. I'm reserving judgment but the negative RT reviews just make me want to see the original version. Long, drawn-out battle sequences that stay true to history you say?

Reviews specifically say the battles are bloody and well done but the story and performances are by the numbers and bland, which is at least a genuine critique instead of something like "They made Robert the Bruce a white man instead of a non-Caucasian woman like the should have".

"Scholagladiatora here, and today we're going to talk about a historical depiction of a minority woman in an illustrated text from 1200ad. Were royalty all minority women? Were longswords actually really heavy?"

I just watched it. Not bad. Not great, better than most of the "historic" movies. Costumes and weapons were decent, the fighting scenes were fairly typical of this type of movie. Editing was much better than Braveheart.

Strong movie, a lot better than Braveheart. Not much of big challenge, though... ;-)

This. Made my day. Got my Nazi and Macho beating some weeks ago (not in here!) for standing my ground in the Netflix-Witcher-Ciri affair; hope it wont come back to you.

Just finished it. Solid 7.5 out of 10. Fight scenes were pretty great. Performances were great as well. Pacing was weird. The ending was also abrupt. Overall I thought it was very good, but lacked that special X Factor that makes things great.

Overall I thought it was very good, but lacked that special X Factor that makes things great. Couldnt have said it better. I second that 7.5 rating, and yes, pacing was a little... uncommon. At least i didnt feel like Hollywood to me at all; and thats a good thing. Has anybody seen The Bodyguard? Hollywood could NEVER do something like that... chewed my fingernails off, couldnt reach my toes...

The Bodyguard? With Kevin Costner and Whitney Houston? That was a Hollywood movie.
