I am a beginning collector but have an odd attraction to Eastern European sabers from about the 16th and 17th century perhaps because my blood connection to eastern Europe. Does anyone know a good place where I could obtain something like a Hungarian saber or polish saber? also I have tried to contact Polish Hussar Supply but he has not responded is he still in business?

Custom makers, mostly. I have a lovely early 16th Century saber from Viktor Berbekucz, for ex, just the sort of thing Red Sonya would have had in "Shadow of the Vulture". Cold Steel makes a pretty nice looking Polish saber. I've heard conflicting reports about it - some say it's overweight and clunky as usual, and with a painfully misplaced thumb ring, but others have liked it and seen no issue with the thumb ring. Not sure what to believe. Del Tin also makes a few quite nice Hussar sabers, based on 15th and 18th Century designs. Windlass also offers a Hungarian saber. Very basic, but affordable. Oh, and there's a pre-owned Angus Trim on KoA right now!

imho I like the CS Polish saber. Decent handling, and pretty. Not clunky, but a little heavy, with a bit too much steel at the foible and too little at the forte (like pretty much every repro I’ve ever heard of). It feels like a cavalry saber built to cut. It doesn’t really seem to lend itself to dismounted fencing, though. The thumb ring works fine for me. It allows the user to pour a lot of energy into the sword, and makes recovery very confident. Dunno if the originals were even remotely similar in handling - I’ve never even seen one in person. I would add that the grip is a little too short for a saber grip with the thumb on the back strap. Maybe the thumb ring hilt design is intended to preclude a saber grip? They are a little scarce right now. Hopefully Cold Steel will do a production run soon. sbg-sword-forum.forums.net/thread/54815/cold-steel-polish-saber-reviewThe Del Tin Polish sabers have okay stats and beautiful lines. I haven’t handled one, though. Maybe one day... KoA has one in stock (!) www.kultofathena.com/product.asp?item=DT7167&name=Late+15th+Century+Hussar+SaberAs for genuine antiques, I haven’t seen any available on the open internet. They seem to command sufficiently high prices to justify flying out to inspect and bring home in person.

Did you grab a saber from szabla? Been trying to see impressions from anyone on their work.
