Making a Tatar saber/Ordynka saber from a former windlass Shashka blade and a left over cross guard from another sword. I want to create a weapon similar to the one in the second picture. If you guys have any suggestions about the work or where i can find a scabbard afterward tell me.

I dont suppose you still have the original scabbard? You could always cut slots for the langets.

If you can find thin-walled brass tube in the right diameter, that's an easy start for the pommel cap. Have you ever done brazing?

Yes I have I want to wrap the grip in leather and I will pin through the entire grip and make the brass pommel I just do not know if I want it at a steep angle or a shallow one there are examples of both. I think the shashka blade is prefect for the sword I am trying to create. The shashka actually shares similarities to the tatar saber which may be it's ancestor.

Oh yeah, the blade should be fine - the Windlass shashka is a replica of a late 19th Century Imperial Russian saber with a shashka style hilt, so it's actually a saber blade to begin with. The tang is also plenty wide enough for pins, I think, almost all the way up to where the thread starts; you'll have to either shorten or bend it to fit a curved saber grip, though.

It will be made a bit shorter it does not need to be nowhere near as long as it is. I just ground into the Ricasso because it is not really needed on this type of saber and it also brought the blade length to the correct 29'' of this type of saber. That is why the tang looks so long I just have not trimmed it yet.

Do you still have the hilt for the Windlass shashka?

Do you still have the hilt for the Windlass shashka? I still have the brass pieces IF I can dig them up.
