I agree with you that it most likely would be a terrible cutter, but I dont think it would be because of the construction (though I would like to know what the cross is made of), rather the blade geometry and weight would seriously hinder it's potential.
If sharpened properly (which looks like a task in and of itself), I think it would handle light targets like milk jugs. But I think it would show it's inadequacies against tatami and other harder-to-cut mediums.
In that respect I agree with you that it is a wallhanger. But a very high-quality wall-hanger it is.

Well, I'm in Texas, and "Ridgey Didge" and "Fair Dinkum" are new to me as well. It is a bad ass looking blade. Here, we would say that with a sword like that you could open up a serious can of whoop ass. Hey Brendan, I have to say, I've been looking at your work on your website, and DAMN! I am impressed. If it were in my budget, you'ld be getting a call from me with a serious order. Keep up the AWESOME work! Sorry, got off the subject.
