This is the exact PPR pipe Peter Johnsson suggested as a simulator for upper arm bone. Here's my take on cutting these "upper arm" target with Longship Armoury 3V swords.

It's things like that that make me wish I had plate for my upper arms. My mail might save me from amputation but not fracture.

Good cut, but if not a secret would be more interested in the sharpening.

Good cut, but if not a secret would be more interested in the sharpening. The finer the grit, the apex will be thinner in width. At 3 micron, I really had to increase the DPS (degree per side) to 40 for the apex to hold against felt block slicing, as a test to locate hidden burr or find out the weak spots. With 9 micron finishing, I can maintain the final apex angle at 20 dps and easily hold against felt block. Which means it retain the "acute angle" while having an apex sturdy enough. And it finishes the apex in way less strokes too. In this test cut it also shows it holds the edge better than the 3 micron apex (being too fine even with 40 dps). So it's the best answer for me. :D I've started resharpening some of my swords used for teaching in this way.

This is not the aquatherm pipe but 2 china ppr pipes to simulate the aquatherm difficulty. I tried to cut it with a lightweight short bastard sword by atrim.

Just stumbled on these. Great cutting as always. Particularly impressed with how well the regular ol' Long Quan katana did after you sharpened it. By comparison, I sort of just expect great cuts from when you use your Longship swords nowadays haha.
What's the name of these ppr pipes? I might have to give these a shot since it's next to impossible for me to find bamboo.

Nihonto! Aquatherm is the brandname.

That last cut with the dadao I cringed as it looked like it might go far enough to hit the concrete wall behind it. Very impressive cuts
