Hello I was just browsing the Fabri Armorum web-page, and I noticed that they have a line of French military saber repros. I understand Fabri to be mostly focused on sparring/combat weapons, and I assume the same applies to these sabers. I must say, though, that on the surface these seem fairly well done. The grips have the proper contours (which are never really captured in the Indian US 1840/1860 repros) and the hilts don't fill me with rage. The fullers seem neat and well-executed. Perhaps our wishes for a properly balanced military saber repro have finally been answered? (albeit in the form of sparring weapons, not display pieces). "French Light Cavalry Sabre" Link"French Heavy Cavalry Sabre" Link(If these things are constructed with a nut pommel, someone could really have a gem by swapping out the "Heavy Cav" blade with one from the CS 1796LC)

I am sorry, but I go ,, Blach!'' looking at this. I see these as generic sabre blade look alikes with French looking hilts stuck on top. I am quite sure that in handling these are not any better than Universal or Cold Steel. So why bother? I looked through the catalogue and found just about the same stuff most other formerly Eastern Block outfits carry. Even British based Celtic Web Merchant was taken over by this ,, stuff '' as are many European shops at the lower end of the market. You'll find this crap from Portugal to Sweden. All the same models with almost indestructible about 4 mm thick too flexible blades made for the re-enactment scene which is kinda huge in Eastern Europe. So no, I do not see how these two are worth consideration. These so called ,,sparring sabres'' in a kinda French make up do not tickle me. Not in the right way that is.
Also, why do you think one cannot spar with a Universal - Empire Costume sabre? The quality of modern steel and more controlled production cq hardening are way better than anything they could do in the 19th C, which was very much a hit or miss affair. Blades easely took a set back then, broke, got chipped, whatever. I think it is a myth that modern blades do not stand up to the quality of originals. The so called sparring blades are made as a low cost solution for people who do re enactment fighting all year, year in, year out. As such those blades do not have anything in common with antique nor modern blades in the antique style. They are more like those Tai Chi blades. Totally different universe.

On the light sabre
The hilt does look much better vs most indiamarts, nice gentle curve and nice thick bars Unsure about the blade though
As for the “heavy sabre” Ill pass

That point looks wayyyyy too acute for safe sparring unless they can flatten it out for you.

Norton Anti-Virus blocks the page for me saying it's' a known dangerous site. That's odd, on my phone on firefox I can open it and shows secure. Wonder why that is

No more in size than the civilian degen. You will be disappointed in the scale of it. These are tiny swords.
