Hello all, I thought I’d post a few pics of some of the beauties I am perusing while in Japan. Pics abundant from The Tokyo National Museum, but sadly could not get photos inside the exhibit at the Japanese Sword Museum but I was able to view the Soshu Masamune (the one most recently discovered)... and my oh my is she beautiful. The exhibit also had many wonderful pieces from many of Masamune’s jutetsu, as well as works from Tomonari, Sukezane and other grand master smiths. Nearly every piece was Tokubetsu Juyo Token or higher... (Note, these are my mobile photos, when I get home and download the GOOD photos off my Canon, I will update the gallery and this thread)... postimg.cc/gallery/rgvkbjik/

Very nice. You got some great shots from a phone, can't wait to see the ones from your Canon.

Flipping lovely! I'm green with envy. That naginata-naoshi with the o-kissaki is serious nihonto porn.

Oh yeah! Just wait. The Canon OBLITERATES these. I just can’t download them off the camera until after Friday when I am home. I didn’t bring my laptop. Haha Also not sure if you noticed but the Aranami Ichimonji is among the bunch I photographed. I took LOTS of photos of that too.. This blade: www.nihonto.com/ima-aranami/Now I know where it went when Nicholas sold it. Hehe

You really went to Japan!?! Hope you and your family are having a great and safe trip. Hope you and your family get a chance to traditionally forge your own knifes.

Don't forget pics of the sword and the targets. Remember, you're our man in Japan.

(rofl) ;) sadly I know not which Ryu, but our teacher was Akihiko Kawata. A “renshi” titled master of Iaido. Did not get tons of pics of the sword itself as it was not in high polish as it was a cutting blade, but I did get some pics on the good camera so those will all be coming as well.

I have a friend who’s in and out of Japan pretty often, and he’s asked me to go with him and his wife before. Maybe next time I’ll take him up on it. Both the lesson and the cutting session must have been SO incredible!! I hope the rest of your trip is just amazing 😁

I own Nihonto but personally would never dream of cutting with my antiques. So it was fun cutting with one for once. 😁😁

I completely understand. All the enjoyment of cutting with a true nihonto, with none of the guilt attached using one of your own! LOL It’s like driving a Ferrari through an obstacle course without having to worry about who’s covering the insurance premium.

Sounds like a great vacation. The sword pics were much appreciated, boy does that naginata blade look awesome. It'd be fun to own a pair of those in wakizashi mounting.
The training bit sounds particularly awesome, getting a personalized lesson and opportunity to cut with a nihonto sounds like a blast. Notice a difference in performance while cutting?
