Just picked up this little beauty Friday and it is pure Slovenian Gold! To start I’ll just say that if you are not a true fan of double/single action handguns then this is not the gun for you! It is engineered based off of a modified Browning short recoil principle. The double action pull is 12lbs, and the single action is 4 1/2lbs. The barrel is 3.85” and it has a true 1913 accessory rail for WML’s and lasers. The decocker pulls double duty as the hammer decocker and the slide stop/release. There is an ambidextrous safety that disables the trigger and allows it to be carried “cocked and locked” if that’s your style. The sights are steel (usable for one-handed manipulation) and bright 3 dot configuration, but I already have a set of Truglo night sights on their way via UPS. A range trip is in the works, and then I can answer more questions about its performance, but for now I can say that it’s fit and finish is flawless, and it’s built like a tank. After I put three or four hundred rounds through it I’ll update this. In the meantime, if you have any questions, feel free to ask. Edit: The picture with the CZ P10c is for size comparisons sake.

Man oh man. Is it better than the father, the 226?

Well it’s more compact so I think I’d compare it to a P229 instead of s 226. A 226 is 4.4 inches, and a 229 is 3.9 inches (Rex Zero is 3.8”). They definitely feel different in the hand, but not in a bad way. A Sig has a definite “solid” feel to it, where the Rex has a lighter-weight feel to it. Not to mention it’s $200+ less, and it’s quality, so far, is pretty much on par with a P229! I’ll let you know how it shoots sometime this week. To me THAT will be the true test!

But the Sig is pretty much the gold standard in toughness and reliability in the handgun world, so maybe the lighter weight would make it less tough? Who knows, I am just really jealous.

No, don’t be jealous! It could be worse.....you could live in London and hence not even be able to get knives in the mail!! 😳 I looked at it this way, I needed a new concealed carry option, and this gun was $618. If I ever had to use it in a defensive manner the chances of me getting it returned are pretty slim (even in such a gun friendly state). So which would I be more upset about losing, the $618 Rex Zero or the $900+ Sig 229 Legion I originally wanted? Don’t get me wrong, $618 is still two $300 swords or one $600 sword I could have bought instead, but like I said this is a carry gun not a range toy. 😉

That justification is why there are so many Hi Point owners who could have saved up a bit more and gotten the decent Taurus, Ruger, and Canik semis :P
It also justifies just getting two of each gun.

Okay now see, THAT’s the kind of certifiable crazy talk I was trying my best to avoid here!! LOL Talking about buying a.....a.....Hi Point should be the kind of thing one only whispers in the dark recesses of his twisted psyche, but never uttered aloud!! You’ll never hear me complain about buying two guns 😁

I'm going to have to check out the Rex. Seems like a lot of what I am looking for, except the price. I really like the combo decocker idea. That almost makes too much sense I was unfamiliar with the maker and will have to visit my local purveyors. Really, the best of most worlds displayed in that.

The rex is one of the most well reviewed guns on youtube. It's famous for being the only firearm to pass the full gauntlet test by Military Arms Channel. There are tours of its factory by TFBTV. And lots of other glowing reviews. i wish it were available here.

That was the start of my interest in Arex, but every review I’ve seen after had nothing but positive things to say about it. Now having it in hand I can see what all the hype was about. I put 250 rounds of FMJ, JHP, and a random box of Russian steel cased ammo through it, with zero malfunctions. My next trip, probably Monday, will be another 300+ rounds of the Winchester 124gr NATO Ammo (yes the hot stuff) to see how it does with some juiced up rounds!

I’m in an FN mood right now so I’m not TOO jealous. Are you gonna try to CC the Rex?

Wow it’s REALLY scary that you said that! I found an FN509 LE for under $550 that I’ve been on the fence about picking up for a while. Are you looking at FNS compacts? Cause those are very good guns!! Yes I’m CC the Rex. I have my holster custom made, and my Truglo Night Sights already shipped to me, but it has to pass my very strict 500 round “satisfaction” test first. 😉 How come you said no to the Shield (.45) you were thinking about before? Have you seen the Shield 2.0 yet?

Looking at the FNX and FNP series mostly, for the DA/SA fix :)

Ah gotcha, I see why you’re waiting now! You know, I almost said FNX, but I thought it might be TOO big of a gun. I believe they’re Glock 21 size, but from friends who have them I’ve also heard they’re pretty soft shooting as .45’s go. Enjoyable to shoot, and 15+1 capacity with FN quality, win-win 😁

Enjoyable to shoot, and 15+1 capacity with FN quality, win-win 😁 Yeah, I’ve basically set my gun plans in motion (since I’m limited to 5 and I can’t own “high powered” rifles) 1. Home defense (with time to deploy) - Mossberg 590A1 Tactical/Mariner 2. Home defense (bedside) - FNX 45 Tactical or FN 509 Tactical 3. EDC for bag and/or car - Glock 19 4. EDC IWB for weekends (with kids) - Shield 45 w/ thumb safety 5. EDC IWB/pocket - Sig P365 Right now I only have number 3, but I’ll slowly build up and could change the other guns around. It’s just gonna be my template. Might go with a single stack 9 for 5 if the major Sig problems still aren’t resolved by November. 1 or 2 (or both?) might be replaced by a good RIA double stack (the 6 inch 10mm Big Rock or a doublestack 45), that HS2000 in 45 I saw in the gunshow with a manual safety and nice sights, or a Glock 40/41 (if I can find one). I’ve also been looking at Metroarms 2011s (they call it 3011s) and while built principally for competition, they look good for HD. 4 or 5 could also be replaced by a nice Ruger LCR. The possibilities are endless! 3 could even be replaced, once the CZ P10c prices have settled down (nearly double the Glock 19 Gen 5 makes it not very attractive for the wallet).

Is the rifle thing a “capacity” issue or a caliber thing? Cause if it’s a capacity thing, how about an SKS or another MILSURP rifle? Quite the ambitious list you’ve got there, but they’re all proven and dependable for CC, well not quite the P365.... yet. Supposedly the most recent model of P365 released has “fixed” the firing pin, and trigger assembly spring failures, but for $550 and up they need to be serious that it’s all taken care of before I shell out that much $$$ I traded in my Glock 19 for a G32, and the beauty is that my holster for the G19 also fits it (the holster was $50 so that’s some good savings right there), plus the .357sig is a big jump in power! Quick question, Is the 6” barrel RIA Ultra FS HC a lot more expensive in the gun stores near you, cause here it was almost another $400USD. I thought it was more of a competition/hunting 1911 then the 5” version I bought, but I could be wrong. How are Canik’s priced compared to Glock in your neck of the woods? Here Canik’s are VERY low priced, but they have a lot of good features! I don’t understand why the P10c is so expensive in your gun stores, cause here it’s less than a Glock, and significantly less than a Gen5 G19. Metroarms is always very reasonably priced, but I don’t know much else about them. Time to check some reviews 😁 Hope you and the family are having a good weekend!!

The only rifle cartridges allowed nowadays are 22LR and 22TCM (which sadly does not have a semi auto rifle yet). Duterte banned its sale when he declared martial law, and also sales of “high powered” rifles in 5.56 or 7.62. I’m thinking of getting a 32 for carry while the 19 is for the range. Talk me out of it! RIAs can sometimes go for really cheap when they sell surplus (maybe thrice a year they have a warehouse sale). I’m gonna wait for that. Caniks are cheaper actually. That’s another option, but the Glock is low enough that I can probably go for it instead. We have a few brands that aren’t all that well known or popular in the States which interest me: IWI Jerichos, BUL, Masada, etc.

Oh wait, that’d be considered littering and a crime against nature 😉 Okay so no rifles, but for home defense, or even a car/truck gun, a shotgun more than gets the job done!! Plus the Mossberg Shockwave isn’t even considered a “shotgun,” it’s classified as a “firearm” which is awesome news for you. Nah don’t go with .32 (not that it doesn’t get the job done), go with .380 or better yet the Ruger LCR in .327mag is what you want. .357 ballistics in an easily concealable revolver, AND if I remember correctly the .327 Mag also shoots .32 So two birds, one revolver! Oh I know those companies very well actually, and not because of Desert Eagles (though I do have a Baby Eagle on my list). Desert Eagle 1911’s are actually REALLY well built, and super dependable. BUL makes a good 1911, and I kick myself cause I had the chance to buy a 9mm Masada but had to use the money for a new TV....long story. Check out Arsenal’s 1911:
